Default best path to eliminate turbo lag in a stock 2 liter WRX?

okay yes i know there are forums specifically for this kind of thing but it should go without saying that i pee my pants when i leave OT.

so i'm perfectly happy with the amount of power my car makes. sure it'd be nice if it made a little more but i'm really not that concerned with it. however i'd REALLY like to eliminate some of this lag. what're the best steps?

Equal length headers and catless uppipe are the most non-drastic things you could do.

i figured a catless uppipe made the most sense but what will the TBE accomplish? less back pressure = less inertia for the impeller to overcome when it spools?

larger pressure differential between UP and rest of exhaust
higher delta P, faster spool.

yup.

in order of effectiveness:
1. catless uppipe
2. TBE (but not 3"... got 2.5" and it will spool mucho quicker with that small turbo)
3. MBC - even at stock levels, boost came on a couple hundred RPMS faster in my car that with the stock setup.

in order of cost:
1. TBE
2. Uppipe
3. MBC

in order of pain-the-ass-to-install:
1. uppipe
7. TBE
135. MBC

seriously, you have enough members near you to get help with teh uppipe. its relatively cheap (couple hundred bucks) and IF you know how to do it, not that hard to install. don't do it by yourself (especially the first time) unless you are very confident with your abilities. also, save the time and splurge on new gaskets. nothing is worse than doing the same install twice.

First thing to do is get a catless up-pipe (or de-cat your own, if you have the patience, like I did).

I did a TBE and de-catted my up-pipe, and it spools about 500 rpms quicker than before...

Manual boost controller will help too, but be very careful. There are people who hate the things, but they aren't bad if you're saving up for a tune. Just be careful!

yeah i've read a step-by-step for an uppipe install and it seems like if you want to do it RIGHT it is actually kind of a pain in the ass.. but it's certianly something worth doing right.

Uppipe, Cobb stage 1.

or

Up/TBE, Cobb stage 2. This was GREAT on the stock turbo. Much more partial throttle boost.

you're in the wrong forum... but with a turbo less restriction is better... non-turbo it is worse (i.e., civic with fart can... less back pressure = less torque).

if you do a search in the 2.0 turbo forum... or whatever it is now... you can find the post explaining why less restriction is better... i believe dan/god did it.
