How to disable daytime driving lights?
I recently had an HID conversion kit installed in my Tribeca. The lights look great when they're turned on. However, in daytime driving mode not enough current is being supplied to the lights. As a result you get a strobing effect. Does anyone know how to bypass the daytime driving lights?

Without doing any rsearch, I can say that the DRL have a switch connected at the e-brake. I imagined that if you were to disconnect that switch you may be able to bypass it. Try it an dlet me know how it worked?

Does anyone have any further info on disabling the DRL?
I had the dealership disable them but now the brights or parking lights don't work. |

Subaru, for some reason has wired the DRL so they are near impossible to disable. I had a Saturn (pull a fuse) and now a Santa Fe (pull a fuse) and had no problems.
An Outback I had would not do it (or I would have put it on my web site) nor would the Tribaca. It's my wife's car, so it doesn't bother her. But automatic headlights. $30K and you have to manually turn on lights. A crappy $15K Ford has auto headlights, so do all Hundia cars. Just don't try SilverStars. They burn out in 3 - 6 months due to these DRLs. You'd think someone would come out with an adaptor that's wired to the battery. Under 10 volts, they stay off. Over 11 volt, it pulls current from the battery wire. |

My Hunida Santa Fe has auto headlights, you can just turn them off. Not sure why Subaru still has manual light and no easy way to disable DRL. I have driven way too many times at night with just the DRL on !

Has anybody tried the DRL off methods used on the 05-06 Legacy? --> http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2117
I don't know why it doesn't work on 07+ Legacy, so maybe no luck with Tribeca either. Wouldn't hurt to look for it. I did it on my 05 Legacy I had in no time. |

Would love to turn ours off as well. Prior to finding this and other forums, I'd searched pretty extensively on the web without any luck.

Everyone should call/email SOA and ask for instructions on what to do if they need to turn off the headlights.
I did this and SOA told me to depress the parking brake one click. I pointed out that to now release the parking brake I have to depress the p-brake pedal all the way and that didn't seem like a good idea whilst driving. |

I use the 1 click method in my 06 and don't have any problems with releasing it just by going down another click. I did find a wiring diagram showing where I can cut the DRL wire, but haven't done it yet. I'll probably wire in a switch when I do though.

I've had HIDs installed (Apexcone/DDM lifetime warranty) since I posted this and I just leave the headlight switch in the "on" position all the time and have had zero issues.
I had the center console opened up to install the XM module but I didn't see the DRL module in there so it either looks different than I thought it should or it's really buried deep. |
