Default 08 ej207 JDM dual AVCS heads on a built v7 ej207

Well here's the thing,

I blew my engine, and the heads were destroyed too..

Well.. done rebuilding the engine block with new weisico pistons, manley rods, and acl rod and main bearings.

The thing is that I couldn't find new or used ej207 single avcs heads, but I found 08 ej207 JDM Dual avcs heads..

So I was wondering, is it possible to run only Single AVCS on these heads, becouse I don't wanna go trough all the trouble of getting the 08 ecu and all the wiring.

Need information ASAP on what to do.

The car is a EUDM 2002 STi

Hoping for good answers, Thanks

i think it would be fine if you closed all oiling areas for that second set of cams, it maybe difficult to do but im sure it is possible

But which part of the range will the cams default to with 0psi oil pressure? Full adv., or full ret. may not be anywhere close to optimal.

i would assume you'd be fine if you just installed the regular cam gears on the exhaust side...

neither because the ecu does not know they are avcs cams, it be like using sti avcs cams in a usdm wrx head, except the oil can already run to the cam and it wouldnt need to, that is the problem.

You could get a standalone ECU that can control quad avcs and just wire up the 2 extra cam sensors and 2 extra avcs solenoids. I think that is the easiest way.

Well.. the ECU in the car is mapped with single AVCS in mind.. and since there is no wireing for the exhaust side, wouldn't it just act like a single avcs head ?

see if you can find someone to trade single avcs heads for your dual that will use them, that way you are both getting what you need

Well I haven't bought them yet.. the thing is that I can't find any single avcs heads that are in good condition.

Converting a dual to single didn't sound that big of a deal :P

Is there no one that has a answer that WILL work in this case ? converting the dual to single AVCS ?

Blocking the oiling on the exhaust side or changing out the cam gears from the stock heads ? what would work?

I really need an aswer guys, I'm currently running a ej205 heads with 272 cams, but I need more flow, and I don't want to spend money on porting if I can get the AVCS back and more flow with these heads.

I still have the cam gears and the sensors from the ej207 single avcs head that got wrecked, and I might be able to use some of it if needed.

how does the oil get to the cam on the exhaust sides, that is what needs to be plugged in order for it to work.

plugged or just rerouted around the cam and back to where it would leave the cam.

getting a v7 head does sound a lot easier, unless you are planning to use exhaust avcs in the futur IMO

avcs solenoids & oil galleys feed the front cam bearings as well as sockets.
on non-avcs heads there are oil galleys that feed the front cam bearings.

You will need to modify the pulleys on the Exhaust side. The pulleys have a button inside them that sort of "locks" the inner part of the pulley connected to the cam to the outer part of the pulley. This button however sometimes WILL unlock itself which rotates the pulley. Normally this doesn't matter as all the oil galleries inside the pulley are filled with oil so the whole thing is hydrolocked and it can't really move. In case of NON AVCS usage any movement of the pulley can be destructive as in smashed valves, etc.

You cannot fit OLD style pulleys as the dimension that goes into the oilseal is totally different. You would have to get another oil seal that fits to the pulley which COULD make it work. I haven't tried that though.

You can open the AVCS pulley and machine aluminium pieces that can be pressfit into the oil galleries preventing movement of the inner and outer part of the pulley when located with the button locked into the outer part of the pulley. Also you will have to tap M4 thread into the oil holes in the camshaft where the pulley is mounted to and insert special M4 screws with internal hexagon head to seal off those oil galleries. You must NOT disable the OIL FEED to the AVCS solenoids as the oil going there is also lubricating the camshaft itself.

I have modified several Single AVCS heads to completely NON AVCS and it works OK with no problems. Should something be not clear feel free to ask or PM me.

Cheers,
