Default I accident took off the 4 bolts behind my 4 pot caliper help.

This was my first time doing brakes on a subaru and I accidently took off the 4 bolts behind the caliper and basically the caliper splits into 2 pieces. Do I need to rebuild my caliper now ? Or did I just get air into the system because my brakes are totally dead the pedal is very soft and the car does not brake. Help me out please thanks.

I tried to search numerous of times.

You probably have air in the system. Did you see any fluid leak out? Bleed it and you should more than likely be fine. That, of course, depends on if you put it all back together correctly.

if the seals/boots look fine no need to rebuild- you definitely are going to need to bleed the system though after getting the caliper back together

might be worth searching for the torque specs on the four pots calipers- I don't have them or I'd post them

all I did was was take off the front portion of the caliper and I said oh **** wrong! and I put it back and bolted it back to the back piece. Are there seals in the middle ? I didnt see any. I went to a mechanic and he told me he has to rebuild the caliper because its leaking. I think he is bull****ting me because I didnt see any seals there where the fluid passes from one part of the caliper to the other.

the seals and boots are around the pistons. try bleeding the system and see how it works

haha I did the same thing several months back. Of course I caught the mistake a bit earlier as I noticed the fluid leaking out. I did not have the caliper more than a mm apart. A quick bleed and I was on my way. Do all 4 corners though...there is no reason to skimp on the bleeding.

Make sure you clean up any brake fluid on the caliper and rotor.
