Default Exedy Stage 1 15802HD Review

I installed this clutch in my 02 WRX about a month ago, after the stock one gave up the ghost as 102k miles. I'm running about 270-280 whp.

Pedal feel is definately a fair amount more than the stock clutch, but nothing crazy. I thought it was great for a daily driver. If you're used to non-performance late model cars it will definitely feel heavy, but so will the stock clutch if that's the case.

It catches very nice, you can slip it no problem but it does have a nice stiff grab to it. If you rip on the car you will notice it grabs noticeably harder than stock.

I am not a very good match for a stock 5 speed because, while I won't powershift them because I know better, I am a very aggressive shifter under power. With the stock clutch I've ripped all 4 on a few occasions on an aggressive 1-2.

Anyway, installed, once I had observed break in I opened her up and banged second and the car effortlessly ripped all 4 and let out a hard CHIRP. So at this point I'm thinking to myself "This clutch is going to help me break this tranny." I continued to take it easy for a few more days, and sure enough a few days later I was screwing around with a buddy, YOLOed, ripped second and broke it.

I'm not saying to fear this clutch because I am absolutely merciless when it comes to banging gears (I'm a drag racer not an auto X guy). Instead I am giving it a positive review because I couldn't find any when trying to figure out what clutch to buy, only negative ones about virtually EVERY clutch in this class. This clutch grabs noticeably harder than stock.

Exedy says its good to 319 wheel torque and I got it for about 450 on Amazon. Installed it on a stock resurfaced flywheel no problem.

And no I don't know what broke yet, just that I can't get the shifter into any gear

Oh yeah it sounds like you blew the trans. Heavier duty clutches only aid in the destruction of the sloppy and fragile 5MT.

Oh yeah trans is definitely broken, just not sure what broke exactly, after some screwing around it appears I still have 3rd, 4th, 5th, and reverse. I'm not pulling it until one of my other cars is running again, the WRX has been stealing too much of my time. I will report back with my findings

Well either way I SHREDDED second, literally no teeth left on the driven gear, 1 half tooth and the rest are all broken off CLEAN. Drive gear not quite as bad but quite mangled.

Im interested what is cheaper to do
1. Replace the tranny completely
2. Rebuild the tranny
