Default Cruise control recall...

I never use mine but those of you that do may want to keep this in mind.

***
DETROIT, March 16 (Reuters) - Subaru said on Tuesday it was recalling an estimated 127,580 vehicles sold in the United States because of a possible defect in their cruise control system that can leave throttles sticking wide open.
"This condition could occur at any time without prior notice and control of the vehicle could be affected," the automaker, a unit of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (Tokyo:7270.T - News), said in a statement.

It identified vehicles affected by the recall as certain Subaru Outback H-6 and Imprenza WRX turbo vehicles from the 2001-2004 model years.

No accidents or injuries have been reported in connection with the problem, which occurs when a wayward cruise control cable on the vehicles comes out of its track, the company said.

You don't even have to be using it to have an issue with it. Go get your WWQ-01 done .

Can do, as it is an important safety item. Funny thing about this is, my 1984 BRAT had the same problem .

Is this some kind of right of passage? Are we not "real" Subaru owners until we've dealt with some mechanical failures?

No,

I'm just tired of every WRX owner seeing a TSB and insisting its a recall.

And you are not a real Subaru owner unless you know what an RX is

You guys make it sound like this is the first recall ever issued for a US WRX.

All US WRX models produced up till February 12, 2004 have this defect. I already had mine fixed, kind of by accident. I was going in for general service last Saturday when the told me they need to keep the car to fix it!

Regardless of whether or not you get a notice in the mail, now that you know, go get it fixed.

Default my automatic had a recall already...

The pin that locks the car in park had a potential not to lock. You could find the car if parked on the hill at the bottom. I had mine fixed. Ill take the car in and check the cruise control. i dont use mine but ill still have it done.

Just had my wagon in for the recall. I was in and out in about half and hour. It was pretty quick.

WRX only,
STi has throttle by wire, so no cable to slip off

it is only a clip that costs a dollar, and takes about 2 minutes to put on.

For anyone that wants to see the notices Subaru sent to its dealers, see:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/prepos/...4V128-1455.pdf

That file includes:
Subaru Stop Sale Order - 03/10/2004
WWQ-01 Repair Instructions - 03/11/2004
WW!-01 Urgent Shipping Update - 03/12/2004

And here's an illustration of the fix from FHI's website:
