Default Arizona Dealers

Hey all,

I spent quite some time going between the three dealerships in the Valley of the Sun and I have a few tales to tell. First, Camelback Subaru is a collection of the most arrogant, unhelpful, and disdainful people you will care to meet. I would not buy a car from them if they were the only dealer on the continent. STAY AWAY. If you dont you will most likely come away feeling as if you have just been fired from a job you hated... unless of course you are willing to pay thier premium price for the car they feel you should own.

As for the 21 Bells Dealership, i had some difficulty finding a car on the lot i liked...their inventory is pretty small compared to my next topic...

Pitre Subaru. Dave rocks. He has sold us two cars including my new WRX and the experience has been great. They have a great inventory, the service and parts area is squeaky clean, and they are the only dealership in the valley that had a clue what i was talking about when i mentioned the STI or AVSport. I would highly recommend them. The only minor downside to this dealership is the finance manager for the complex who happens to reside in the Isuzu dealership down the way. She was a bit tough to communicate with, but it was a small blemish on an otherwise great experience.

So there is my .02. If you do go see dave, tell him Shawn sent ya.

Hope this helps someone.

Shawn McKean

I have to agree with the post above.

I shopped around quite a bit before deciding to purchase my WRX at Pitre. I even visited a dealership in Show Low (they wouldn't let me drive the car without a manager present - who just happened to go home early that day).

The sales people at Bell didn't even bother to come out and talk to me.

Now Camelback, they are the biggest bunch of con artists in the valley. They said there was a MVA (market value adjustment) attatched to the WRX of $3000, but they might be able to knock a couple hundred dollars off if I bought it that day. Absolutely insane.

Pitre, on the other hand, was exceptional. They treated me with respect, answered all my questions, and they definately have the best facilities in the valley. I even got a great deal - well below what the other dealers were asking.

I dealt with Ed Bentley, and was completely satisfied with his service.

If you are in the Phoeinix area, and looking to buy a Subaru, I definately recommend Pitre.

Feel free to send me an e-mail if you have any questions

Have you had to use Pitre's service dpt? I wonder if they are as good as the sale people that helped you? Thx - Jay (WRX bought used in CA..)

Sorry, don't have any experience with the service department. I live in Tucson now, but was living in the Phoenix area when I bought my car.

When made my purchase, the salesman introduced me to the service manager - I think his name was Mike Harris. He seemed like a good guy. I would expect the service department to be as good as the sales department. It usually seems to be that way.

i shopped at camelback first. i dealt with the fleet guy and without any hassle was given a price of $600 over invoice ( not msrp ). only problem was that they offered me crap for my trade. i checked pitre and 21 bell and they both wouldn't go any lower than retail. i finally checked planet nissan/subaru in flagstaff. over the phone i was able to get the car for $600 over invoice and they gave me $1500 more ( than camelback )for my trade. they were great to deal with and i had no complaints about them. even the finance guy hooked me up with great financing ( 6% ) after my pre-approved loan fell through. they were great and i drove my car home the day it came off the truck.

I also bought my RS from them in Feb of this year and it was a great experience. They dont jerk you around they just give you the best deal possible. Went in there at 4:00 PM and was off the lot having dinner less than 2 hours later test drive, negotiation of price, trade in aparsail, credit app, in and out. Plus Finch has been servicing Subarus for 30+ years. Plant gets a 10 out of 10 in my book.

Talking Bump for Killer dealership

I bought both of my rex's from DAVE REVERE @ Pitre. To make my story short and sweet. I was wanting to test drive the (then) new WRX. I went to ALOT of dealerships. I looked at SE-R's, IS300's, etc.. I went up to Pitre, Dave greeted me, asked me what car I was looking into. I told him the WRX (which had only came out 4-6 months earlier), he said "which one?," I selected a Silver one. He retreived the keys and said "come back when your comfortable." I took it for a 45min. drive!! I returned and he said "you liked it didn't you?." I bought it for WELL BELOW MSRP. And I had little "haggling" that you would have at other dealerships. I would buy from these guys (Dave in particular), even if I lived in NY.
-SHane

BTW: I returned to Dave and bought my 2nd rex. In a 1/4 of the time (not including test drive..lol..).

Pitre Subaru service dept is the best in the valley period , and probably the state of AZ for that mater . Robert and Mike can and will take care of any problems as far as warrenty and services go . Just be honest with them and the will do there best to take care of you .

Has anyone looked at any STi's there lately? I am looking to get one, and was wondering how reasonable they are on them. I really dont want to pay msrp for one and was hoiping that since they seem to have the best record that they would also have good prices. any help would be appriciated.

I posted this eleswhere on another site but it really needs to be here...

Last weekend I was at the Pitre Subaru Dealership in Phoenix. You see there is Subaru Dealership in Tucson and it could be a decent looking place if they chose to do so but the place kind of reminded me of a used car lot with a contruction trailer office. Floors were dirty, newspapers all over the place, dirty restroom and non-existent literature.

The on Sunday of weekend before last Emich was closed they locked a set of STi keys visible on the frontseat of the car. One smack and it's Joyride time! I also found 2 of thier new cars with windows down and the doors unlocked with a rain storm coming. I couldn't imagine leaving my car there for service. "OH THE HUMANITY" would be what someone would be saying after I left the dealership if I found out my STi was damaged or stolen at the dealership.

So I decided to take the 120 mile trip to the Pitre dealership. BIG difference! Clean, bright, a STi on the showroom floor and they have all the literature too.

I wandered through all the departments asking lots of questions about service, tire life, how they treat modders. I wanted to know what was the 1st problem I could expect in my ownership of my new 2005 STi. The more difficult questions I asked the more honest the answers became. Leave it alone until your warranty is up if you want to keep your warranty!

I do plan on making some minor Mods to the interior and I wanted to make sure that the parts that I will cut into or drill holes into I could get cheap enough incase I changed my mind on the mod or was planning to sell. Most of what I want I will buy the day I pick up the car and store them for that day far into the future when I return the vehicle to its original condidtion.

I approached the Parts counter and there was no one there. The receptionist explained that he was in the back inventorying equipment that had recently come in and he would be with me in a moment.

A few moments later a haggerd looking young man came up to the counter and asked if I had been helped and I said not yet. He wanted to know how he could help me and I told him I want to buy an STi. He quickly interrupted and said the sales floor is out to my left. I told him I have already met with them but I decided to build my own and I wanted to buy my STi and build it one piece at a time.

His jaw dropped because he obviously believed it. For that matter the Receptioninst did too. I allowed them long astonished looks between themselves before I cracked a smile.

You could see the relief on his face...

Kind of reminds you of a Johnny Cash song don't it?

Wow, this thread is two years old!
Anyways, I've bought two cars from Pitre within a year (02 WRX in 3/03 and XT in 2/04). Dave is a great guy and the best salesman I have dealt with.
I havent dealt with their service department, but their parts guy is awesome. Here's my phone call from last week:
Me: I need a front strut mount for an 02 wrx
Parts: I have it and it's 99.99
Me: Is that the best price you can give me? (I was trying my luck here)
Parts: How about 69.99?

Sold.

I will buy my STi (fingers crossed) from Dave one day.

Time to bring up OLD topics. How is Pitre's service department. I am having a big problem with Emich Subaru in Tucson and SOA on my head gasket issue. They wont call me back to see if they will warrenty it or not.

The reason I ask is because I would like to call a Subby dealer and find out why it maybe taking so long. If I could I would drive it to Pitre from Tucson, but I don't think it will make it that far.

Tell us about the headgasket issue....

Since Emich changed thier Service Manager I have had no real issue with them. I am surprised they are not returning calls as they know it affects thier Stellar Performer ratings.

As you may already know they moved to the old Saturn dealership. It was a big deal and there were (are) some phone issues. Call back and ask for Dan or Scott. If they can help you they will. They are really good guys and they do look out for the customer. Be honest with them though They have very good BS detectors

Good luck!

This has been a couple of years ago, but the service manager at Pitre saved my butt when my car's warranty was nearly up (78,900 miles with 80k warranty) by reminding me that I had the warranty in place. All of this over the phone and without gaining any work on my car in the process (much cheaper tow to Albuquerque from here than to it is to PHX). At any rate, I don't have his card and he may not be there anymore, but it was the service manager in the winter of '03 or so.

Good luck!

time for a bump and some new info to contribute to the arizona group.

Camelback Subaru service seems to be ok now nice and seemingly knowledgeable.

Anyone, from current experience how are the valley's dealers sizing up now!?

well i was into steven jory on Bell over the weekend so they could look at my junk. They were very nice, understanding and quick. The service advisor i had was knowledgable and professional, johnathan i think his name was and the service tech came out and we spoke abit about things. Nice and he knew his stuff. The dealership is a bit tight in the driving area around but other than that it's spot on. The service area was large and clean.

Have had my WRX serviced at Steven Jory for the last couple of years and have been pretty happy. They would usually give me a loaner car (if they had them) even for oil changes. Troy is always very helpfull and knows her stuff. The only complaint was how my car drove after its 30k service. If just didn't feel right. I took it back and had a few different people ride with me. They wanted to fix the 'problem' but none of them thought there was anything wrong.
Also just bought a used LGT for my wife. We'd be bugging Michael Ehle for months. We'd stop in and look at all sorts of different cars. He never made us feel like we were wasting his time. He probably knew we'd eventually by from him, and we did.
All in all pretty pleased with them.

Thumbs down Emich Subaru: Tucson, AZ

A year and a half ago I visited Emich because I was interested in buying an 05 STi. My first experience with them was that the sales people were rude and cocky. It was a chore to even convince them to let me test drive a used '04 STi they had on the lot. I finally test drove it (and fell in love), but I couldn't bring myself to purchase form them (They also had no 05's in stock at the time).

I ended up purchasing out of state from Huberger motors in Colorado.

I drove by the service department today because I noticed a leak coming from my rear-diff. I was going to have it inspected/taken care of under warranty. I walk into the service department and a guy's sitting in the corner with his feet on the desk and blurts "what can I help you with?"

So, I say "hi" extend my hand to shake his and walk up to him. He just sits there motionless, looks at my hand, back at my face and without moving snidely repeats "what can I help you with?"

So I'm standing there like a f'in a$$ with my hand out while he's kicking back at his desk staring at me. Anyhow I loose it, mutter "f-this" and turn away and walk out.

I ended up calling the service manager who promptly returned my call and apologized quickly and asked when he could schedule me for my appointment.

Anyhow, I've had nothing but bad experiences dealing with their sales and now service department. Why would I give my money to a dealership who's employees won't even get off their a$$ to greet you, let alone shake an extended hand as a gesture of goodwill.

These experiences plus the numerous accounts of denied warranty claims for unrelated minor mods makes this dealership a NO GO in my book. I'd rather make the 1.5 hr drive to Phoenix for any warranty work, or better yet just pay to do it myself. Stay Away!

I... HATE Emich as well. Everyone there is incompetent. Last time I went in for service, I asked when they expected the new 08's to come in. The said they already had a couple on the lot. This was in April or May. I have a few other reasons but that really just takes the cake.

Been thinking about buying a WRX or STI. Stopped into both Avondale & the Subbie dealer on Bell Road. Nice sales guys. Drove an 08 WRX. No problems. Probably would have bought one already but I'm still considering an RX8 or BMW 335i
