I believe they're welded to the roof. Another poster got his taken off but it seems way too much effort unless it really bugs you. I actually think the cars look better with the rails vs without

Oh?
They seem securely in place, but I am fairly sure theyre removeable.
You can buy them online for around $1700.

And 1/2 your interior trim to gain access to the headliner.

I think some dynamat and ccf would be in order if you're removing the interior. Been doing a lot of reading on that and am very intrigued.

I was thinkig that if I actually could get $1000+ for them, it may be worth the pain in the ass to remove them.
Lift kit and tires...

I'm going to email Obama and ask him to ban mechanical hvac controls. My friend's 2002 Honda CR-V has digital controls. This is ****ing 2013 analog should be unheard of.

I prefer analogs. The 90's style dash layout and instruments are one of my favorite aspects of the car.

Yup, I broke one of the plastic clips that keeps the cables in line with the controls. Thankfully a little bit of liquid weld held it together.

That's just what we need, more expensive parts to break where the only fix is to replace the whole unit.

Let's not get big brother messing up our Subaru any more than they already have. My first vette (1984 Z-51) was all digital, zero analog whatsoever and it cost $1500 every time the dash went out. That's what I love about the scoobie, simplistic and reliable. The electronics in my Tahoe are starting to have trouble now. I sure wouldn't want any GM influence passed to Subaru.

For the manual linkage controls, I believe you have to buy the whole unit as well. There was like a $150 price difference between the digital/manual

It does, that's one reason I bought a premium.

I have no problem with things being simpler and cheaper.

Over the weekend I swapped the premium head Unit with the Fujitsu Ten Nav out of a BRZ, also wired a kenwood Reverse Camera to it. I'm still waiting on the Nav Bezel from the dealer so it doesn't leave any gaps but it doesn't look bad as it is. I'll try to snap a picture later.

Here are some pics of the XV

Dipped Badges. The Subaru side was debadged.

Here is the Fujitsu Ten Nav installed with the Non Nav Bezel, I'll be installing the Nav one soon.
