What year and model axle do you have in there now?
Why not fix the boot on your axle? |

That's only going to indicate whether he has male or female axles. Depending on what year the axle is there are different lengths too.

Just checked out my axles. I don't have the taper on the axle shaft towards the transmission side. It's got to be an 04 STi axle right?
Edit: a friend showed me a wrx axle compared to an STi axle and the STi axle didn't have the taper like the wrx had. |

The 2004 STi can come with either male or female axles, there is no single axle that will fit all 2004 STis. The length differences are moot really, you just need a front axle that matches your transmission style (male or female axle) for a WRX or a 5x100 STi (JDM 02-03, some 04 STi).

Khanh, when i brought the car to Wicked to have them check it out prior to purchase, im 90% sure i remember them telling me it was an 05. Tom read the serial number off the transmission. i thought the WRX axles had the taper on the end, but now im thinking otherwise and that i may have been misinformed. either way, i can see where the axle connects with the transmission and there is no taper.
@ Wicked, im not sure if you remember my car, it was 2 years ago. haha but im almost positive it is an 05. |

Theres so many ways to do a 6-speed swap. Best to pull the axle and see what kind you have.
IIRC all the axle outers are the same, the difference in lenght is trivial, and the only real difference is whether you have a male axle that slides into the front diff (late 04-current) or female axle that connects to stubs sticking out of the front diff (early 04, or late 04-current converted). If you dont have the roll pin like in post #4, then you have a male axle. |

Okay just checked out my axle. From what I could see, I don't have that roll pin. It would be outward facing towards the rear of the car correct? If so, it appears that I have late 04+ axles. Because of my lug pattern I would need late 04 STi correct?

The roll pin rotates. If you have it you'd see the end every 180* around the axle.
Without the roll pin, you need a late 04-07 axle. Like I said before, Im pretty sure the outers are the same between 5x100 and 5x114.3 for the front axles. |

Derppppppppp. I knew that. :P
I might have a pair of Late 04 STI Axles. Maybe. Or maybe I sold them with the transmission. I remember keeping some parts from the swap I bought but I dont remember what I kept. |

late 04 axles are the hardest to come by for sure. one of my customers tears through axles and sourcing him those gets tough

If the CV is in good shape, why not just repair the boot? Its cheaper and you wouldnt have to worry about any fitment issues.

You may also want to look into stubbing the gearbox and using standard GD WRX axles.
