GoFastBits BOV hybrid
Got mine from Flash and Dash Perfromance. brian over there
was real good. very fast and supportive service. ordered it yesterday got it overnighted to me. got it and installed it. first off the fit and finish was almost Japanese quality... i swear, it was top notch quality. i have it setup on 50/50 mode. with my Blitz NUR catback, i cant her it unless i rev it up at wot. the pshshs sound is rather lower pitched and not obnoxious at all. and there is no bog or backfire problems that i encountered with atmospheric bov's. nice unit. with the NUR, i guess i could use a little more psshshsh noise, but that's okay i guess. ive yet to take it out for a longer spin to see my boost levels, etc. install took me about 30min. had to turn the cap around 180 degrees so that the nipple faced towards the right in stead of left as GFB originally packages it. reason is because my wrx came with factory boost guage and the T fitting prevented me to arrange the vaccume hose on the left side.

one week follow up
not bad. i think im going to keep this unit on my car. no
back fire (i may have gotten one between a mis-shift)... no bogging like the 100% atmospherics. very good. the pshshsh tone is more of a whooosh (lower frequency) and not extremely audible, but its there. i think i like this unit. |

I bought my GFB BOV a year ago and went thru a lot of on/off periods with it. the product itself is fine: it makes the right noise, does not backfire under full atmosphere mode, works well in hybrid, its easy to install/uninstall. I bought mine at a good price of $150 shipped (new) from ninos auto. Even at this price, I feel it isnt worth it. A lot of people say they can notice the turbo lag difference, but in my opinion, they are just trying to justify spending $150+ on a product that just makes a whoosh noise. If you want to buy a $150 noisemaker that is your choice, for me, I'd rather put the $150 into something more worthwhile.

Mine only cost me $40 and I love it :-)
I ran 50/50 and 100, and I honestly like 100 a little more. I still need more time with both to really make a final decision. I do agree about the 50/50 being really quiet. You need to wind the motor up to get it to be audible at all. Oh well :-) |

yah, i had the HKS before too. it was working alright except
it was backfiring from time to time causing some hard shiftups. but it wasn't consistent on all the wrx's and just mine, i guess. I got about 15k miles on the GFB's and i'm still loving it as the day i put it on . hehehehe. |

Yeah, had my for 3 months.. Bougt used for 100. I like that it is quiet except under WOT shifting... I don't personally like the obnoxios pppssshhhh sound at every shift, and I like that the car doesn't run rich... The car will backfire though... I have no cats and the car will backfire under certain types of shifts, mostly downshifts and such.. I had to spin it 180 too to attach the greddy boost gauge.. definently get it if you are looking for a quiet bOV

The WRX comes from the factory with a recirculating BOV. And unless your factory BOV is leaking boost, adding a different BOV does NOTHING for spoolup, and anyone that even remotely understands the intake tract of a turbo car will know this. There are only 2 benefits that come with an aftermarket BOV. 1. The noise 2. The ability to run over 18PSI of boost. If you are not making more than 18PSI of boost, there is ABSOLUTELY no benefit in replacing the factory BOV< other than its ugly and quiet, which is why I replaced mine. |

I have a little red GFB running 50/50. I admit, I just wanted a noise maker, something to let people know I have a turbo, but not at the cost of running rich between shifts. I really doubt it helped performance, but I don't feel that it hurt it either. I hope someday I'll have a chip that will tell my car not to expect all that air back in the manifold so I can run full atmospheric.

I've had mine for almost eight months. Works great, but I had to cut a bit off of the spring to adjust it propery.. no more fluttering now.
I love the sound.. whether I'm recirculating through the intake (I can hear it with the Rampod intake) or blowing to the atmosphere, it's a great sound. |

air broken up noise..
that's not a good noise.. you should losen the spring.. if it's as loose as possible take it apart and cut some of the spring off.. |

Thanks, pete. I think the noise is coming from else where
on my car. I took apart the GFB just in case and re-lubed it. The pssshh sound is as good as new. Edit: btw, for those that don't have this unit yet who want to know, re-lubing the GFB is very easy. . you don't even have to take the bov off the car. There are 4 hex screws on the top of the hybrid GFB. Take the 4 hex screws off while holding the top of the bov. Slowly pull off the top of the bov...there is a spring holder spacer and a long spring inside. Take those out. You will see a bronze colored sleeve (piston) inside the bov. Pull that out, clean it off and the inside of the bov. Re-grease the piston. Push the piston back in, move it around with your fingers a little to disperse the grease. reverse order for assembly. I just installed this bov a few days ago. I love the sound, which is the only reason I got that and the good deal I got on it. It looks good too. Thought I'd post a picture of it installed. I'm currentlly running at 50/50.

Last I saw MastroWRX (mastrowrx.com) was selling them for $175. I've had one of these on the car for some time now and its great, no problems running 50/50 (actually, its 60/40 according to the instructions )

I paid damn near $200 for mine, but it was the first one off the boat. Now 1 year and a half later, it's still going strong.
to the GFB! |
