Less than 100 is miniscule, yes. Everyone knows the American market is all about sedans. I just don't see the point in Subaru abandoning this niche. People mention CAFE and that's a real possibility. There could be something lined up to replace the WRX hatch, we don't know yet. And thanks for clarifying that NASIOC members with opposing opinions to yours = fanboys.

As for Europe you do know the WRX/STI was pulled out of the UK market right? You really think Subaru is going to cater this car for what is a small market for them in Europe? Don't think so and being sedan only never hurt the EVO which still sells in Europe and the UK.
I certainly do know this. Europe won't be in the dumps forever, and Subaru would be mad to give up on the car-culture hub of the world. I'm sure they'll bring the new WRX back there. It's just hard to imagine them not giving them a hatch. Good point regarding EVO, though it hasn't ever really sold like hot-cakes either.

Quote:
Oh so it is performance in the corners you want? Then get your priorities straigh and start saving for the new WRX. I know this new generation is very self entitled but you simply are going to have to compromise as Subaru isn't compromising with the new WRX/STI as it's clearly catering to those that want performance over having minivan utility and it's not like sedans don't have some utility. You kids are simply overreacting as always.
Ugh. If Subaru did away with everything but the hatch because government regulations weren't backwards and made it impossible to bring small, impractical, gas guzzling cars to the market instead of wagons (doesn't that make a lot of environmental sense?) you would be crying a river. And the last thing I would do is wind up a big insult and chuck it at you. You are entitled to an opinion, and to complain if something has been taken away from you for no good reason. I'd complain too. More options = better.

My priorities are very well thought out. If Subaru doesn't give me an all-in-one option (I know nobody else will) I'm going to suck it up, pay off my JSW and buy a used M3. I really don't want 2 cars to handle my hobbies and satisfy my lust for G's and noise, but I'm not compromising. What an entitled little brat I am.

Meh, you should be able to get both performance AND utility.

If Subaru wants to steal market share from the Focus ST and the VW GTI, they should provide the WRX in hatchback configuration.

So true.

Even the new Audi A3 will only be offered in the States as a sedan.

You want utility...get an SUV like most Americans do.

I probably wouldn't buy a first year car anyway. But a hatchback would be useful. If it's sedan only I might have to look elsewhere. But never say never!

I have to believe that they'll come out with a 5-door, even if it's a year or two later. I really don't think that the WRX that comes out will look ANYTHING like the concept. For years everyone has been talking about the lack of ingenuity on appearance inside and out on the WRX. I think that ultimately Subaru has done very little in response to these complaints.

For them to throw this flashy sports-car design at us shows that they are finally responding, but at what cost? This car doesn't say "WRX" to me. It's way too flashy, and doesn't look like a car I could take off road if I wanted to. I just came from a '12 Legacy GT, and this car reminds more of something like that, but faster.

No sir, I don't like it.

I don't want a man van.

performance sedan for me please, 4 doors is enough utility for a car... If you need something else buy an old nissan hardbody or legacy wagon for those few times you do. I couldn't even fathom shoving stuff into my new 35k car anyway. The interior is crap and will scratch/wear fast, no matter what that stinky ass dog on the suby commercials tells you.

Assuming that they sell both an STI and a WRX, I'd buy the WRX, which would hopefully be less expensive than $35k.

Everybody who was considering buying the new wrx, but is now reconsidering because of the lack of a 5-door option, should go to https://www.subaru.com/shopping-tools/contact-us.html and write Subaru a product suggestion. We should help Subaru become aware of what their customers want.

Dear subaru, please stop making hatchbacks - they look weird anyway. Maybe try to slim out that sedan or only offer the hatch version in a 2 door version of your wrx.

Thanks so much

You obviously have not tried fitting a full sized stroller in the back of a compact sedan... My hatch makes driving a wrx and being a parent not a pain in the ass.

My wife has a 10 civic and it has to get wedged in there, but before you do you have to remove the wheels and remove everything from the trunk.

Going to the previous poster....I wouldn't like buying a first version of a new design. My Mazda 3 was first year of newer model. Lasted forever but tons of headaches. I just bought an 08 wrx. My first. I love it regardless of the firewall issue notorious for its model, and slightly because the power level is underachieving and I just missed the vf52 in the 09. I still love it.

I'm a sedan guy and I will probably wind up buying this model in a few years if it stays around a while. I feel I just have more room than a hatch and don't feel entrapped. I don't know. It's just my preference

I don't HATE sedans (except when they have that ridiculously humongous wing on the back). But I prefer the looks and practicality of the hatch.

I've secretly told myself upon getting my 2012 WRX 5-door that I'll keep it for 10yrs. So I may have to pass up on this one. Any news on the MY2022 WRX?

I own a 2013 sedan and I'm more than happy with its looks. The hatch looks very good as well. Comes down to personal preferences
