Default ATTN: electronic masters i need your help

per lotustt's instructions, i will attempt to make a more intelligent post. i recently fried the part of my radio that delivers power to the face illumination board. after trying numerous things, i decided to simple solder a wire onto the board, have it running out of the face, and hardwire it to a power source. Each of the leds on the board have a 330ohm resistor on them, the power running to the board itself is connected w/ a 3.3k ohm resistor on the positive side so negative power is 12v, positive is 12v+3.3kohm resistor ALL GOING TO THE STEREO FACE, however there is not enough current to power all the leds, if i connected another resistor in the path so there are 2 resistors of the same resistance running in the positive path of the power would that give me the ability to draw more current

sorry for the confusing post, it seems my attempt to be more intelligent has failed due to sleep deprevation

please try to help me

ps, i would have tried this already but im out of resistors and i just wanna know before i buy more

Are you sure it's a current problem? Because adding another resistor in series will reduce current, and LED's usually don't require much.

i think so
if i hook like 3 leds to one resistor they become pretty dim
im thinking about just hooking up a one ohm resisor instead of the 3.3k, would that make sense

it would make sense to reduce the 3.3k ohm resistor. Did you use that just to limit current draw? You probably don't even need that there since all of the LEDs have resistors in series already. Actually you definately wouldn't want that because most of the voltage drop is over that huge resistor so the LEDs are only getting a small drop.

When you have more LED/resistors in parallel, you're essentially reducing the combined impedance. Small resistance compared to a much bigger resistor in series, most of the voltage drop will occur over the bigger resistor. So connecting fewer LEDs is basically increasing the impedance, giving a better ratio to the first 3.3k ohm resistor so getting a bit more voltage drop as well.

Try using no resistor, but make sure the 330ohm resistors will give the LEDs the proper voltage drop. If you want to dim them, use a smaller resistor where the 3.3k used to be, much easier than if you were going to change out all of the resistors at the LEDs.
