I would like to believe VERY much that I know better than Subaru engineers, but I don't. But to me it's very common-sense that previously, oil changes were 3750 (with dino oil), and now, synthetics, which last-longer-period-end-of-fricking-story, should be allowed to run at LEAST longer than 3750 (let alone 3000). How far? Who knows, but Subaru says 7500, and unless someone can show me an actual instance of something breaking because of oil being changed at 7500, I'm sticking with it.
ALSO: I HIGHLY... HIGHLY doubt most people fall into the "severe" category. Sure, we might not fall into "optimum" category (so maybe a compromise - oil change at 5000-6000?), but there is no way that we're running the engine beyond standard parameters most of the time. Except for true track-only cars or something, at which point my speculation (yes, we're all just SPECULATING, I just happen to admit it) reaches its end.

Exactly, there is a reason why Subaru removed turbocharged vehicle from the "automatically in severe service" category. Now if you fall under the other cases of severe service, then by all means change it early.
