I still dont see an Indy 500 win on that wiki, just a IRL win at Watkins Glen.

I did not note the ALMs involvement.

My comment on them being a mediocre team still stands.

If I do have a racing team, with the lottery that is IRL and oval racing I would hope to have more than just 1 win over 20 seasons.

Your statements are rather extreme. It is fine that you don't like Alonso but you can't ignore what he has accomplished. Most experts consider him the best driver in F1 right now.

Bobby Rahal is a driver and owner I have never been a fan of and took him to task about 20 years ago in a radio interview when he dumped Honda just before Honda started winning but he has accomplished more then all but a very elite group. I give him respect for that. It was his car that went for the win at Indy this year. Watch Letterman's interview:

they are also very tongue in cheek. I guess it hasn't been that evident on this forum but I also believe him to be one of the best in F1, if not Schumacher like in extracting the most out of a car.

Has Rahal only been with Letterman? or has he had another team?

Quote:
Robert "Bobby" Woodward Rahal (born January 10, 1953 in Medina, Ohio) is an American auto racing driver and team owner. As a driver, he won three championships and 24 races in the CART open-wheel series, including the 1986 Indianapolis 500. He also won the 2004 Indianapolis 500 as a team owner for the winning driver, Buddy Rice.

After retiring as a driver, Rahal held managerial positions with the Jaguar Formula 1 team and also was an interim president of the CART series. Rahal was also a sports car driver during the 1980s, and made one NASCAR start for the Wood Brothers.
When Rahal was running the Jaguar F1 team, he nearly pulled off snagging Adrian Newey from McLaren. In fact Newey had already signed the contract to work for Jag, when Ron Dennis was able to persuade him not to go. Newey had worked as Rahal's race engineer in Indycar.

That team is the reigning champion in both drivers and constructors at the moment.

You might consider changing your user name to just Indocti.

it's also 7 years later down the road after many multiple iterations. That's quite the leap you are making in connecting Rahal to RBR's dominance in the past couple of seasons.

I am shocked as to what it not considered mediocre.

To me mediocre is a team that is mid-pack at best.

But is that Rahal as a driver, or Rahal as a team?

My comment was an off the cuff, humorous remark on the results demonstrated by Rahal Letterman in IRL and CART.

You guys really got your jimmies rustled.

What?

DC Won Monaco twice, Monza, Imola, Interlagos etc...

Being an F1 driver in a team like McLaren and winning many races at multiple famous tracks around the world is mediocre?

I agree he is not in the same league as Alonso but give him some credit

You would really trash my driving career if you think that a multimillionaire multiple race winner like DC had a mediocre career

my point exactly. I ****ing adore DC. but at the end of the day overall he is a mediocre driver. I was a staunch DC supporter till RBR let him go. I did get tired of his "this is my year speech" that he gave every year. 2000 was a great season though that (from my recollection which is biased my man crush for him) Mclaren screwed him over by supporting Mika as the #1 driver.

I dont think you guys realize what mediocre really means. Anything under a 7.5 on a scale of 1-10 is by my definition mediocre. DC prob is getting the short end of the stick though.

I'm very much looking forward to engines being part of the discussion in F1 again: http://scarbsf1.wordpress.com/2012/0...014-f1-engine/

1.6L turbo? Yes, please. Trickle down tech into road cars? Yes, please!

I'm neither yay, or boo on that. I rather just see trickle down tech / high tech innovation.

just a thought, not even sure if I thought this all they way through.

With the new engines, and the FIA throwing any idea possible at the sport to make it more exciting. I was thinking aobut a different approah to force teams to make more responsible choices. Until now they have been using the regulations to specify how many new engines teams can use. What if they took away the limit on new engines, and just put a 5 grid spot penalty when ever they wanted to put a new/different engine in the car.

I don't know if im going about this idea correctly, but the idea is to tie spending to something that can help smaller teams. Someone said it earlier, the bigger teams can afford to try a couple different things with the engines, and see what works. If you have a smaller budget, you need to wait and see what is working for the other guys, and then make some changes, so you limit your risk and spending a bit. But you are also behind the curve.

And since everyone would forced to change engines at some point, it ties your strategy to the entire season. It also could force teams to try a different race strategy each weekend. To compensate for the starting position. On a side note, the tire limit would need to be revised also. Why limit tires, let teams use as many as they want, they are paying the pit stop penalty already?
