Care to share your parts list and cost? What ROM are you running? How are you handling navigation?

At first I really wanted to keep my climate controls in the dash but after some testing/cutting it just isn't going to happen. Going to have to move them. Have some ideas on to where to move them to. Nothing permanent yet. My car right now is a disaster. Everything is out, the dash the whole center console the whole trunk.

Onsit, I am new to this; so pardon me if this is a stupid question. I thought that a dac was for two speakers not four?

Going to make an assumption here, but he also has an amp. He will use the dac as volume control and slight amplification and then convert to RCA to plug into the AMP. It is what I did minus the dac. I'll be posting my setup soon once I finalize everything. I'm currently finishing the audio and waiting on the JDM trim.

I believe it was this unit, but anything with an aux port will do. Make sure to get a BT head unit if you want hands free also

My goal for audio is a nvidia shield tablet (removable of course) with steering wheel controls with no head unit. I would absolutely love to try and do a 5 channel and mono channel amp without using a dac if I can avoid it. Maybe a 5.1 channel amp if they even make them for space savings. I just don't understand how I would connect to the amp(s) without using a headunit.

lookin good onsit! I need to to upgrade to the 2013 N7 also, I'd like to have full time LTE without my phone in hotspot.

How are you controlling the volume level? On screen software volume control?

I don't know how you would do steering wheel controls, but as far as audio the way I did it was as follows:

3.5mm cable plugged into tablet > Headphone Amplifier > 20 ft Stereo Cable > Stereo to RCA Adapter > Ground Loop Isolator (Reduces static from charging tablet) > RCA Splitter. The RCA Splitter (Now four RCA connections) plugs into the amp. Amp powers speakers.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you'd like more information such as branding and parts.

This is what I'm currently using for volume control. It works pretty well, but sometimes if music isn't currently playing there will be some feedback from my mobile hotspot. I'd make an assumption that if you have a 2013 nexus maybe the LTE would make it not have static but I'm not sure. I tried on screen volume for a while but it got annoying.

onsit would use the DAC for volume control most likely.

Maybe I could run a ground loop isolator on the phone charger and run 3.5mm to RCA(y). As far as steering wheel controls i have been looking for a module that would allow the steering wheel key press to go through bluetooth. I have had no such luck finding a module that has that capability. I did just find out that we can now do audio through USB while charging with the release of android 5. I haven't the slightest clue how I could do USB audio to an amp(s) without a headunit though. Maybe someone will come out with a module that would allow us to do that. That would really be a game changer for removable tablet installs.

As far as USB to audio to amp you'd just need something similar to onsit's DAC. Instead of my section where I do 3.5 from tablet to headphone amp to RCA, you'd do USB to DAC to 3.5 to RCA.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. No way around it at this current time around it I guess.

Steering wheel controls are done with a Joyconn micro controller. You wire in the resistance wires, and then connect them to your USB hub. From there its detected by android as a keyboard. Allowing you to map your steering controls to any thing in android.

My amp took a RCA 2 line input, which then gets split to 4 car speakers. Some DACs do exist that give you 4 line output... But I'm not an audiophile.

As far as mounting the tablet to the box. I used an old case that was easy to remove the tablet from. Then I used double sided mounting tape from my box to the case.
