The story of how I got my new car :)
Hello! I just got my new 2001 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS Sedan yesterday. I am so excited! It was a very very long ordeal.. so I thought I would share my story with you. (I will make it short!)
When I first saw the Impreza, I wasnt sure it was the car for me.. but the more I researched this car, the more I fell in love with it. I am currently living in Urbana,IL and there is only one Subaru dealership in town. They did not have a Sedan. I contacted them and we worked out a price. They would find the car and bring it to Urbana. They contacted me 2 days later, saying that they had found 6 potential cars in a 300 mile radius. They were contacting dealers to see which ones were avaliable. I waited another 3 days before they called me back with the good/bad news. The bad news was that all of the cars were either SOLD or SPECIAL ORDERS. The good news was that they had ordered a 2002 and I could have that in 4 weeks. I had my heart set on the 2001, so i wasnt thrilled about that idea, plus I was at their mercy for how much it would cost me. So, I went on Subaru.com and contacted several dealerships that had the car I wanted. I even contacted the places that had the so-called SOLD or SPECIAL ordered cars. To make a long story short, the local dealership had lied about everything in hopes of tricking me into buying a 2002. All the cars they tried to get were still avalible. (Of course the dealerships might not have wanted to part with them.. but they coulda told me that!). And on a side note, one of the dealerships that I contacted... wouldnt budge on the price. The reason why.. was because they told me a "Dealer in Urbana wants this car.. so no matter what we will get our price for it." Little did they know that I was the one who wanted it in Urbana. Nice try guys.. Anyways.. I ended up getting a 2001 in Silver.. with 6800 miles on it. The additional options include a moonroof air deflector (that has to go), rear bumper cover, premium speakers, tweeter kit, and center arm rest. It cost a total of 17,300 + tax/license. They even drove it 300 miles to get to me! Free! I am so very very happy with this car!!! I will post pics as soon as I can. Anyways.. thanks for letting me tell my long story. -Tanya

Tonic..Congratulations..Hope you like yours as much as I like mine! Always bear in mind; the veracity of a salesman's statements are always to be questioned! Or "where there's a will, there's a way"!

Must be something about the 23rd
That's when I picked up my new 2.5RS sedan as well. I went through the same thing as you did. Two local dealerships who sell Subaru's as an afterthought. One is a Porsche/BMW dealership (boy do they treat you well when you tell them you want to spend 20k instead of 80k) and the other has about 200 VW's on the lot and 10 Subarus. Needless to say they mentioned that they *might* be able to get me what I wanted but they were hard to find and in high demand. I really didn't get anywhere with them. Like you I went to Subaru's website and searched the inventory. I had to go out 300 miles and over 50 dealerships but I finally found the color I wanted at the price I wanted. Got mine for $400 over invoice and had ZERO problems dealing over the phone/email! It's pretty stripped with only the armrest and tweeter kit as options, but I can install everything else for less than Subaru charges so no biggie there. I couldn't be happeir with the car (well I could, the short gears are really annoying when you try 0-60, but when pulling out of a corner they more than make up for it). Speaking of cornering, WOW! This car just handles BEAUTIFULLY! I am VERY VERY impressed. http://www.ijeff.com/images/car/rs-side.jpg Subaru DEFINITELY needs to teach their dealerships a thing or two. It's sad when customers have to go 300 miles out to get a costumer friendly dealer. [This message has been edited by PackMan97 (edited February 26, 2001).] |

Wow.. your car is beautiful That is the first picture I have seen of the car in red. (aside from the brochure). It sure looks nice
It is very sad that we had to go 300 miles to find a car and a friendly dealership. But.. at least it worked out Thank god for at least somewhat of a good site. I think they should add a feature of being able to search ALL dealerships for a specific car.. that might be faster. -Tanya |

Congrats both on the purchases. I drove from Miami to Asheville, NC to get my red RS coupe. It was about 1800 miles round trip, nothing special since I got my red RS just the way I wanted it.
The car is now about 3.5 months old and has 12,000 miles on it. All I need to do is find a good service department. PackMan97, it looks like you bought your car a Dulles in Leesburg, VA. How was the experience? I took a friend to look at Legacy GTs in December and they were very friendly and had pretty good product knowledge. Good luck, Matthew [This message has been edited by matt in fl (edited February 26, 2001).] |
