I believe it is the same size as the elbow, but don't think you will have enough to use from it. the elbow is 2.00" ID.

Can anybody let me know where I can find the stock passenger side tmic bracket, or even the set of all brackets? I've been searching the web and I can't find jack!

Best thing is to find brackets through nasioc.com members. Try wanted section.

Default Air Splitter

I have a 07 WRX and i recently purchased the USDM STI IC. I still have the stock hood scoop, so does that mean I will have to buy an STI hood scoop just so that the USDM air splitter will fit, or will the JDM version fit on a stock wrx hood scoop?

I'm pretty sure on the 06/07's they didn't change hood scoops between the two models like previous years, I'm sure someone will chime to in to confirm

if that is true you need just the splitter/bellows and your good to go

06/07 wrx and sti use the same hood scoop.

can anyone confirm that the elbow on the y pipe (sti) will work fine on a vf39 swapped 06 wx? is it the outlet of the td04 vs the vf39 that makes that pipe not work on a stock turbo wrx?

thanks

at least on the 02-05's it's more of the fact that the STi is designed to sit more rearward (throttle cable vs throttle by wire)- when mounted on unchanged brackets it sits further back- thus the need for a longer 90m also a longer TB hose

are 06/07 WRX's throttle by wire as well?

06/07 have drive by wire so the ic to throttle body length is the same. i'm just worried about the elbow from y pipe to vf39.

if the TB distance is the same I'd have to imagine the distance from the elbow to the turbo would be the same as well

Default USDM STi TMIC

I ordered a USDM STi TMIC (going on a 2004 WRX) and it should be arriving in the next week or so but which splitter is best suited for that application/upgrade? Are there any tips on approaching the install and should I be aware of any problems once I begin the install?

So to make the STI IC core work on an 06-07 WRX re-using their stock y-pipe you need to... ???

Bringing this up from the dead because I'm confused.
I have an STi TMIC coming with the Y-pipe, but not the 90 degree elbow.
I have a Prodrive silicone Y-pipe on my WRX already.
What do I need to make the STi TMIC fit?

you can purchase the 90 and the extended manifold/ic hose as a kit

here's one place (there are others as well)

jackie,

sell the prodrive Y-pipe. I cut mine and it still wasn't long enough. Search my name in the car part review section for a 90 degree hose that fits perfectly.

I've been reading this entire thread trying to figure everything out... I have one question. Since the stock WRX hosing is a inch short, can't you just buy an 04-05 STi Samco intercooler hose kit to properly install the USDM STi IC without any modifications or hose extending?

Last I checked, the only hose kits Samco made for intercoolers were for WRXs only. The STIs come with "high flow" y-pipes already, so there is no need to upgrade it to a silicone one, whereas the WRX came with the restrictive corrugated one. So, in essence your thought might be right, except the parts dont exist as far as I know. This is why everyone uses either the stock STI y-pipe, the aftermarket two piece y-pipe kit, or cuts and lengthens the WRX silicone version.

I had the cut and lengthened silicone y-pipe hose, but split it open. So, I just bought the one piece OEM y-pipe and gaskets brand new for $70. Im going to give that a shot. I already have about 3 different TB couplers and 90° hoses floating around here, so Im sure I can make a combo that works.

As for the hood scoop, splitter, and seal, I need to come up with something for that. I, like others, ran the STI intercooler with the WRX scoop, splitter, and seal, and noticed pretty warm IC temps.

Also, this seems like a good place to post it...

I was looking for some of those replacement clips that hold the rubber to the splitter since a few of mine were broken when I bought the car, and I didnt want to pay over $1 each at the dealer.

I managed to find a very close replacement at a local Napa just by chance (the first place I looked before the body shop supply store). Theyre made for a Nissan apparently, but work perfect for this as far as I can tell. Found them in the auto body replacement stuff. Not all Napas have this area I have found though. My local store had JUST added the section. They had a few choices, but most were wrong in one way or another (I went through the whole section for anything close). These are the closest I could find to the correct clip. A key point here is the fact they are a "closed" clip like the OEM clips. This means that after the clip is installed, it will still hold pressure on either side of the holes to keep itself centered and hold the seal tight. Some of the other "arrow" clips you can find are open once the tip of the "arrow" goes through. That means the clip has a lot of side to side movement after installation, and doesnt hold the seal well.

Anyway, theyre slightly longer than the OEM clips, but I used them in all locations on my OEM WRX splitter on my 02 with no problems. They look factory with almost the same texture as OEM even, and hold strong. All the holes on the 02 splitter are through holes (nothing behind them to hit), so the extra length doesnt seem to matter. I bought a bag of 25 of them for about $5 I think it was. Just thought I would pass on some helpful info.

So this kit by Samco for the 04-05 STi won't work with the STi IC in a WRX?

5. WRX splitter and seal won't align correctly!
Solution: order air splitter and seal kit from rally spec
RST-9085kit Air Splitter & Seal Kit MY02-03 $84
http://www.rallispec.com/

Thanks for that link. I think I may have to get the air splitter and seal kit from there because that is much cheaper than I was looking at getting the JDM splitter for.

Interesting. As I said, I didnt know that existed. Although, for the price, I would still just buy the OEM one piece y-pipe for $70 and go that route.

As far as fitment goes, Im not sure if that would work or not. Essentially you would still have the elbow in the wrong place I would think... The same as if you had the STi factory y-pipe and elbow.

just trying to get some confirmation on this. I have an 06 WRX looking at a 07 USDM STI intercooler. I understand all the hose stuff just confused about the hoodscoop/spliter/seal. Do i just order the air splitter off rallispec? RST-9087kit WRX MY'06-'07 (Ver.9) $138.
