Hey guys, I'm looking for a few tips on increasing my autocross times this year. I started 2 years ago by going to 1, then did about 6 last year. I felt better behind the wheel, but as was transitioning from a '98 OBS (AGX struts/GF210 springs, adj rear sway, RS wheels with 205 Hankook v12's and stut bars, with a catback) to a stage 2 '04 WRX, same adj swaybar on the highest setting and same tires.
Besides getting some more seat time and attending a class with an instructor in April, what mods can I do that might give me an edge in my class? Cobb Turboback + OTS 91 oct tune 20mm adj swaybar set on 22mm equivalent Hankook v12 205/55/16 on 2000 RS wheels (probably my biggest issue) Grimmspeed MCB Stock brakes currently, but upgrading to Stop-tech pads and blanks in the spring Stock struts/springs.. with good life left in them Tire pressure usually 50/43 depending on the course or day... to combat the soft sidewalls ... and the catch.... 4EAT! I'm usually a good second or two behind most in the class, but I feel this is because I don't launch the car and don't plan on it. Mostly I'm having fun and trying to beat my own times. Any help would be appreciated.

Your off-the-shelf tune is illegal for STX.

Did u mean MBC? because that is ilegal for stx as well, cobb does have a stx ots map u could run.
i would recommend improvements in this order, #1 Tires, ( star spec, rs3, rival or equivolent) #2 Wheels 17x8 as light as possible ( cheap alternative check drag wheels on discount tire 17x8's <$500) #3 Alignment at least 2.5 degrees of negative camber in front (doable with $20 camber bolts or plates if you go to coil overs) slight bit of toe out all the way around. #4 coilovers ( ground control sleaves with koni sports works great cheap, or megan or bc's work cheap as well but ride worse) Spring rates look for 400-600 in front and 500-700 in back, rates depend on your prefernce what your looking for in the car. #5 brake pads hawk hps/hp+ work great cheap rotors r fine, #6 power adders and weight reduction wherever possible. Hope this helps! |

I think he meant brake master cylinder brace. Which is also illegal. I ran v12's last year and the year before. They leave a lot to be desired at an autox. A stiffer front sway will also make a lot if difference. And definitely check out the stx autox setup thread posted above me ^^^^^
