Question Closed loop - open loop switching

OK.. i hope this doesn't sound confuseing... I had my scanner hooked up this afternoon when i was driving down the road... i noticed that when ever i got on the gas or got completely off the gas the car went to open loop (dri) which i'm guessing meaning open loop while driving. but if i just get on the throttle a lil it stays closed loop... i have checked my plug wires & vacume fittings *have a vac gage in the car* and i'm still comming up blank... is this normal for our cars???

Only engine mod
Borla Heads

Thanks peoples

Jonathan

Mine does the same thing. I'm assuming it's normal.

Normal......think of it this way.....closed loop is when the O2 sensor is feeding info to the computer.......open loop is when the O2 sensor is not feeding info to the computer.

When you first start your machine in the am.....until it warms to a specified temp.....it runs open loop....once there the computer gets info from the O2 sensor (and others) to manage your fuel and keep it at about 14.7/1 (air/fuel).

Now what happens when you mash the throttle......it wants to go full rich and disregard the O2 sensor.....ergo back to open loop.

OK don't flame me for not providing all the other minutia about how the system works.......just providing a simplistic view of what happens.

Hope this helped..........
