I am 21 now and bought my first 2006 Sti when I was 20. I just put my down payment on the 2013 Sti.
I am in an apprenticeship so my school is paid for so that makes it easier. But the car payment is easy to swallow, but my insurance suck if you have a good driving recorded it's not to bad though I pay about 600 a month on insurance and car payment |

07 wrx, 26k miles, stock at 19 for $19k with 5 year loan for $370/mo. Then traded it for equal pay off at 21 and bought 06 sti, 41k miles, stock for $25k with 5 yr loan for $490/mo. Had over $10k saved and modded the sti some along with buying a 00' rs2.5, 140k miles for $3,250 cash 8 months later for a daily. 4 moths later here I am doing just fine all while living with a roommate, working full time and taking 1-2 classes a semester n paying cash for that so I don't get in debt. I've made less than $40k a yr the entire duration of my Subaru owning. Its all how much make, how much your bills are, how much your ins rate will be and how good you are at budgeting/saving/sacrificing. If getting a loan credit helps as well. I am also still slowly modding both of my current cars. Have over $7k in mods total to both cars currently.

20 when I got my 02 wrx. Paid 6k cash.
24 when I got my lgt spec B...put 6k down and got a loan for the rest at 2% through a local credit union. Still 24 lol and wanting to sell the spec b to get rid of my payment. I have absolutely 0 issues making the payment, but I just enjoy not having a payment and being able to mod, go on vacation, all that. |

I bought a brand new 05 RS sport when I was 26. I had nothing but beaters before then because of high insurance(under 25). When I was 30 I bought a brand new 2009 STI. Traded in the RS for a down payment. I recently purchased a used 05 WRX for a winter beater and the STI has never been winter driven

I was 17 (almost 18) when I bought my first 02 wrx wagon. My parents helped pay for it and I had some money saved up. Now I just turned 19 and in the past few months I sold my first wagon and bought a 02 wrx sedan with the money I got from my wagon and some money from my savings. Im now in college, but I don't have student loans to worry about.

I inherited mine! my parents bought it brand new in 01 (it's an 02 wrx) and gave it to me last year to persuade me to go to my local community college. Needless to say, their method worked edit: I was 17 when I received the car and am now 18.

Bought my STi at 22; traded up for my Forester at 23.
Love the car; hate the payments. Don't buy one. |

Bought and paid for at 24, ended up paying 15k for my wagon. My advice, don't get yourself a car payment unless you know for a fact you can handle the payment. No point in putting yourself into debt if you don't need to!

Bought my first in college with co-op money.
While I could easily make the payment, I regret it. Wound up going to grad school, etc. And while that car has been in the family for one person or another for the last 10 years and 200k miles... It would have been MUCH smarter of me to invest that money, save it, or toss it toward high interest loans. Max out an IRA and buy a used $8-10k WRX. 90% of the fun while still being responsible. Bought my first a 2010 impreza 2.5i premium at 26 just a few months ago, traded in a 2008 sonata so i already had a car payment, and just 4 days ago my wife's sonata started to how warning signs so I gave her the 2.5i and got myself a 2005 sti stage 2
My advice only get it if you can afford to because you will likely fall in love with it and put yourself through hard times that may not have been necessary to keep it. Also I already have 2 kids one on the way and a house so I'm financially stable enough to get the sti |

Got my '05 9-2x Aero couple months ago, 26 yrs old. Had all Honda's before, still reeling over how much more gas I'm using, but its worth it overall.

I for my 06 wrx 2 years ago when I was 19. Only had 40k miles on it. I should have it fully paid off in the next couple of months. Though I would have had it prided off a long time ago if I didn't start modding it. I have quite a bit more money in mods than what I owed on the car.
If I were you I would wait until you are out of college and see what kind of job you can land. The job market is pretty tough right now. A friend of mine has had a masters for two years and still works at barns and noble because he can't find a job anywhere else. |
