Heat finally dropped off to upper 70's. This is from a 40 mile commute on 2-lane county roads, with a bit of 4-lane and a bit of city. Avg speed is 43 mph. CVT.

I hoped to get over 36, but got 37!

No AC. Yea it does impair mpg.

Yep cvt.

Same here, 60-65 probably the best mpg on flat road. Downhill, sky's the limit.

it's a heat mat, I'm guessing he lives in warm weather/ full sun. You'll see those a lot in Arizona to prevent dash from melting/warping in the heat. I've seen a lot of carpet ones. This looks nicer than that.

Well I drafted behind a truck for a good 15 miles today. Reset the trip before just to see what it would show.

I know it was a short trip and 100% highway, but it's only shown about 35-38 when I have done this before not drafting. It was still climbing as I got off the expressway. Can't believe what a difference it makes. I think I might have found a new hobby.

It's a DashMat. It reduces sun reflections. 1 hour into the sun in the morning, and another on the way home.

2012 Impreza premium non pzev 5 speed Manual
@80mph 30 mpg constant
Highest was 32.
That is after being corrected by pump math.
Seems the gauge on the dash is 2 mpg high.

It would get more mpg at slower speeds I am sure. That was from me making my 90 mile round trip commute to work. Thankfully I do not do that anymore and have found closer employment.

Ok, did a long trip this morning, looks like for sure my odometer error is 2.8%. Gps tracked 266.5, car was over 259.2 but not yet to 259.3.

Forgot to look at mpg, but should be around 30-31 indicated, haven't filled up yet, indicating 1 bar less than 1/2

Drove Syracuse (I-481) to the Catskill exit (Route 23) both ways earlier this week as part of a longer trip from Syracuse to Rhinebeck and back. Set the cruise control at 74, with very few slowdowns either way, outside of the work zone in Albany.

Trip down during the day, temps were in the mid 70's, limited AC use, averaged 32.7 MPG, with average of 63 MPH (entire trip down). Return trip in the overnight hours, temps ranging from mid 50's to mid 60's, no AC use, averaged 29.7 MPG, with average of 63 MPH (entire trip back). Split MPG's were roughly the same for both directions for the Thruway-only portions of the trip, with the average speed running closer to 67 MPH. Considering it's downhill going east and south, and uphill going north and west, no big surprises with the differences in MPG.

This is with a CVT, PZEV, 5 door, just shy of 6000 miles on the odometer...

Alright filled up today, 383.4 miles, 12.2 gallons, 31.4 mpg, car indicated 31.5. Not to bad for 72mph for 250 of those miles, and the rest was driving around Minneapolis for the last 3 days.

5sp sport.

Yea not bad , but my 10 Outback gets that with a bigger motor and my sons 10 prez gets 30 on the highway at those speeds with the 4at. I guess my point is as much emphasis as Subaru put on MPG with the new car it falls a little flat. I have never gotten over 22.8 city only with my car and it seems you have to drive 65 or below on the highway to get 36+ mpg

^ Yea, looks that way

Looks like 27 mpg city was a little bit of an over-estimate

What's wrong with that? Subaru's claimed EPA fuel economy ratings are established using the EPA's rules (the same rules used by every manufacturer, not just Subaru).

If we, as owners, want to match the EPA numbers, then we need to match those driving conditions. Driving 75 mph on the highway is not matching those conditions, so it should be no surprise that MPGs will suffer.

This article provides an idea of how complex the EPA tests are:

http://www.caranddriver.com/features...-mpg-estimates

There's no way that we, as consumers, can match the EPAs test conditions. But that's OK. The point is that all manufacturers are tested the same way, so we as consumers can make a relative comparison of the fuel economy of the cars we're considering buying. How close does the Impreza come to the Mazda3 or Ford Focus in terms of fuel economy? The window stickers should provide that comparison.

Been avg. 31-32.5mpg with the AC running on my daily commute 60-65mph on highway. My co-worker just gave me his Aero crossbars and I see the mpg needle below fluctuate more when I put some weight on the gas pedal. With the drag I've been avg. just above 30mpg the last two days. I expect the it to go back up when I remove the bars and turn off the AC (probably 34ish+)

Oh, and a/c on entire time, and a lot of my driving in Minneapolis has been stop and go. After the first 250 miles, the car was indicating 32.8, which would actually be better than epa because i was traveling faster than their test speeds.

I'm happy with this car, especially since i was just hoping for 30ish average

Got my 5MT Impreza hatchback from the dealer on 8/16/2012. We've driven it 1700 miles since then.

My last tank averaged 34 mpg. My current tank (I've only got about 1/8 tank left) is averaging 40.5 mpg according to the trip computer.

My driving has been almost entirely freeway so far, although a good chunk of the current tank has actually been city driving as well.

Overall, pleased with the car and its performance. I'm coming from an old 1.5 liter Civic. Pretty much anything is going to get worse mileage than that thing, but for an AWD car with a 2.0L engine the Impreza has been competing well.

EDIT: I'm especially pleased considering that these numbers are with a passenger and a lot of luggage in the car with the A/C running.

I want to say that the average speed on both of those tanks has been ~67 mph, but I don't have the car nearby to go check for sure right now. I definitely wasn't being a speed demon.

On my trip home tonight i averaged 31.8mpg over 330.9 miles! Not bad for 72 mph for a good part of it. The first 37 miles of the tank were stop and go with a ton of idling going to and from the baseball game. Oh and this was an e10 crapahol fill. I'm not complaining!

So I am about to crack my first 1000 miles and almost all highway but I'm getting only 27mpg... seriously? Someone please say this is temporary. I drive pretty easy going, though I notice that when you first accelerate with this car verses our outback its really quick to 30mph even when you don't try. It's a 5d Limited Sport. Oh, and I have the pzev on there, which I've heard affects it too...
