Impreza GC8 Pistons,Rods,Balance Crank, Crank Bearings for turbo EJ25

Just wondering if anyone know of any companies that made pistons, rods and a balanced crank for the EJ25? Also, is there a company that sells high speed crank bearings or if someone knows the max RPM's for the stock crank bearings? I wanted to build the block before I go turbo to insure reliablity. One more thing, Im looking for a person that has these parts in their car already. Dont want to spend money if they suck..

Compression ratio: 10:1:1
Max RPM's: 7500-8000

Thanks Nick

Why not an ej257 STIi motor?

I know there was a thread a while back where there was a lot of talk about bearings and the very few options out there were not cheep. I think it was in factory 2.0...

There are a few companys that make pistons for the 2.5.... JE, wesco are the first that comes to mind. Pauter rods are great. and jun makes a 2.5 crank.

i dont see why the 2.0 crank bearings wont work...basically the same block just different stroke and piston sizes....
another reason why is because ive seen a WRX swap ...dont feel like wiring the whole car all over again, plus taking out everything inside the car. Trying to keep it simple and reliable..
Thanks Nick

You can get a STi short block for $1300 how are the parts going to add up to less then that?? Even if you did all the work yourself? and there is no wiring mess....

I secound that if you want to increase RPM you will have to change the vale spring, cam and some kind of engine management Sys. that is already more than $1300

hey on phone w/3badhabbits he wanted me to post:

what do you mean by sti short block ? what sti short block will fit to the 2000 RS 5-speed trans ?

if you are talking short block, wiring harness is needed.

also, ej25 7 short block... what year ?

at 6-10psi, ej25 will not need an aftermarket computer system. please explain in detail your situation.

thanks nick (via jenn) haha

A Shortblock is not the same as a longblock, a longblock would be the entire engine (a la entire engine swap, considering to be 'alot of wiring')

Shortblock is the bottum end of the engine IE pistons, rods, crank and block...

We're talking the brand new USDM STi 2.5 Litre block (so 2004 USDM block you can buy it from US dealers brand new), you can mount the RS heads to it without too much trouble (requires a bit of machine work to the coolant system but not nearly as much as machine work for a completely custom block I'd assume)

"at 6-10psi, ej25 will not need an aftermarket computer system."

With the USDM block you should be able to run more like 12-14psi I think is the general consensus before you need to do head work (the stock valves will float)

Umm depending on the setup you need some kind of engine management (not nessesarily 'computer system') at any level of boost, it's just asking for trouble without it. If you're already going to be spending so much on building an engine why not spend another grand to ensure that you don't destroy it and undoubtly make even more power.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...sti+block+info

This should get you started on your search... there a lot of threads covering the STi block swaps. They will bolt up to the rs 5 speed, they will bolt up to the rs heads.... I dont remember the Comp Ratio but its covered in the other threads.

Why would you be looking at 5-8000 before you drop it in?

The short block is $1300, you mate it up to the rest of your current ej25. It includes everything you're looking for, and a stronger cylinder block.

You still use the rest of your EJ25.

Ya... I dont get it. 1200 for the short block maybe 100 to 500 for odds and ends to get it straped in and working. Slap on the turbo kit you already have and your done.

Did you read the link I posted? Theres info about slaping on wrx and rs heads to the block, there are also threads in this fourm about the 2.5 heads bolting on....

I built my entire motor myself! parts list for bottom end
JE-Pistons $600 coating for pistons $150
Rings- $150 rods- $600
machining of crank $200
Balance of all rotating parts together around $150?
No mods to open deck block

If i would have waited for the STI block savings-- around $500

How is it cheaper to build a bottom end?????? I put it together

The only thing i have is bragging rights to is I built it all myself!
And i smoke STI's all day long! i am running 300WHP @13PSI
in the spring i hope to be running 400WHP. if i would do it again i'd buy an STI short Block and build up from their.

Your RS heads bolt right on to the STI block. the short block is known to handle 300hp already so with not use it? you don't need pistons and rods for the short block! it ready to go!
