P0118 Engine Coolant Temp Sensor High Input
Wondering if anyone knows the fix to this problem.
It seems like after running the car for awhile or letting it idle for awhile, the fans will stop running and the coolant temp will start to climb up until it overflows. When the fans stop, the P0118 code comes on. The car idles around 1,800 and the coolant temp rises. Here are the steps we took to fix it. Replaced the Engine coolant temp senor Replaced the thermostat Replaced the coolant Now we burped the coolant as much as possible. Is the top coolant tank by the turbo (rotated setup) suppose to be topped off completely as well? I mean we filled it up almost to the top, but not to the cap. Is air in the coolant even causing the problem or is it something else? I did replace the OEM coolant overflow tank with a Perrin catch can. Could I have set it up wrong to cause the problem?

The code means you have an electrical problem. All the other things you're doing won't affect it. So, you need to fix the code to solve the problem, it's not the cooling system that's causing the code. My guess is you have a partially cut wire that works most of the time. The manual has a trouble-shooting procedure for the code. I'd follow it.
