If you can't find a buddy with a STI in the area then you should do a spirited run and measure right after the run, then 10 mins after.

Make a turbo chimney heat shield. This would sell like hotcakes.

Great stuff. First glance at the images and you know this has to be some insanely expensive camera.

This takes getting rid of heatsoak to a whole nother level compared to the fun but rather inefective I/C water spray subaru put in the STi's .... just imagine that underhood temps are decreased in epic proportions with this failry cheap mod compared to the weight adding I/C spray system that probably costs twice as much. I run a temp gauge and the water spray cut's arround 5°C (41°F?) when activated for a few seconds and it lasts like a minute then temps go back up. This is ridiculous compared to the results from the blanket keeping the tmic + the intake manifold temperature down at all times .Never thought the temp difference would be THAT high. One of those cases that make you wonder why car manufacturers don't use these things. Maybe safety reasons and the fact that they sell thousands of these car's and have to take almost every possible situation into consideration and they can't risk it?

I have contemplated on buying a ptp turbo blanket for a very long time but i always end up with this question:
Does it increase the temperature significantly on the hot side of the turbo? The images don't quite reveal that. I always wonder if things could get "too hot" and decrease the lifespan of the turbo? If anyone has ever tested this i'd be glad to know.

Thank you for this very cool (pun intented) review! It indeed outmatches the video from ptp in terms of credibility and results (from the complete engine bay no less)

(btw found this thread thx to PTP their facebook page no less )

refer to PTP's website in the FAQ section or a thread that the Unabomber made here. There are no negative effects of running a turbo blanket.

This is something I've been needing to do for a long time. I have no heat wrap, thermal wrap or turbo blanket or heat shields. My top mount is always baking due to my dom 3 that's basically touches it. Lol. My.next investment will be all these items

I think someone mentioned it earlier about their intake manifold being hot. I've noticed that as well. Any put any tape on the bottom side of the runners or anything like?

I'm picking up another manifold soon to paint and swap so I don't have downtime. But this crossed my mind. Obviously this would be a small thing, but a bunch of small things can add up to be efficient.

PTP needs to sponsor you, I had debated a turbo blanket, and thought "maybe one day I will purchase one" After seeing this, buying one today! Great thread, awesome info!

The heat is coming from conduction from the block itself through the TGVs. Tape wouldn't do anything. The only way to stop it is to insulate the manifold from the block, aka phenolic spacers.

Thank you for answering my question back on page two or where ever it is. Guess I'll save my heat reflective sticky backed material for something else. Maybe the underside of the heat shield I'll be buying this winter.

Thanks for taking the time to do the testing and sharing the results. That's one sweet camera. I was originally going to run just the GS shield but will definitely get a blanket as well now! maybe even some gold tape for the underside.
