It was good though, because it lead me to Andrewtech. If I wasn't getting TSB service or recall work, I would never go to a dealership again. Mike at Don Beyer has been great so far over email so he might change my mind about dealerships.

I gotta agree with you about Manassas Subaru. I guess they have the potential to be good...but they are a Dodge dealer first and a Subaru a very distant second.
I have always had great luck with Stohlman but I treat Debbie (service writer) well and she is nice to me. What I think most people lose site of is that people react to how they are treated...if you walked into Andrewtech with a big chip on your shoulder Dan or Andrew would toss your ass out the door. Stohlman cannot quite do the same thing...but they also don't have to be as nice as they could. This BS about always treating the customer like peaches and cream no matter what they say is nice in theory....but in real life I know I don't have time for it and I can't imagine a service writer at a very busy dealership does either. Bottom line is treat them like YOU want to be treated and you will get farther. |

When I talked to the cashier about filing a complaint he didn't seem surprised at all. She also seems to treat her staff like crap from what I saw standing around for 2 hours for them to diagnose a wheel bearing; that should take 10 min. |

I leased 3 Subarus (2002 WRX, 2005 STi, 2005 Legacy GT Limited Automatic)from them and had nothing but wonderful sales and service.
I always brought my own Mobil 1 oil and never had a problem., not even with a discount coupon. Last time, Brian the Service Manager, gave me a cockamamie story about how the $29.00 Coupon is meant to be used only with their oil and he would have to charge me $104 to use MY Mobil one. I slammed down the coupon and said use your oil. I am not paying $75.00 to have your mechanic unscrew the caps on 5 bottles of oil. I have been a loyal customer for 5 years and their mechanic blew it in one attempt to rip me off. I told Tom Wimmer in sales that he had a problem. he said he couldn't do anything about it. I told him to talk tot he sales manager. I said there is no reason for me to drive 40 miles each way to get screwed by the service department when I can do that driving only 6 miles to Manassas Subaru. I had $1,000 in Subaru Bucks, so I bought the intake and exhaust for the STi. They aren't getting the installation work. On my service visit and when I went to pick up the parts, I noticed a dearth of mechanics and customers. Here's to you Brian: your attitude is costing your dealership customers. |

If you want to be treated with respect, do the same to your writer. Granted we can't go off on the customer when they treat us like crap, but I will say this. If you are rude and disrespectful when your broken car needs to be fixed or needs warranty parts, some won't be so anxious to help you right away. Barking orders at what I will or won't do isn't going to get your car fixed. What it will do is get the cold shoulder from me and my reluctance to help you I also think sometimes we as writers also set the tone but not in every case. In every instance I tell my customers why their check engine light comes on, how to prevent the gas cap codes and physically go to their car with them and show them and I do give them 1 freebie and then after than they are paying. I show them their failed parts and show them what failed and how to tell on the part that failed. I think alot of writers also don't try to get to know their customers. I know my regulars know me and my family as i know theirs. Sometimes you have to build trust and help the customer out from time to time, but I have bills too and can eat everything. |

No updates in here for a while, but I thought I'd add another comment about Manassas Subaru. I'm pretty new to the area and took a gamble on where to first take my car. I've taken my car there a couple times now for regular service. The wait times are a bit on the long side, but I can deal with that. No complaints with them really - they've always been able to answer my questions and were friendly and helpful. Biggest disappointment was the quote for the 30,000 mile service price, but I'm sure that's not shocking to anyone.

Not so great exp with Manassas Subaru
Quote:
Oh wow, your update bought back a negative experience I had with them a few years ago. I got them to do the 30k service on my STi, I got a good price on the service, a bit cheaper then the other local Subaru dealerships, but the quality of service was poor. When they bled the brakes they failed to do it properly, and I ended up having to bleed them again shortly thereafter only to find quite a bit of air in the lines. They also failed to properly secure a one of the hose clamps on my lower radiator hose, it was on diagonally causing the car to leak radiator fluid. When I complained to them they offered to perform free service, but I wasn't willing to take the risk they would mess up again. Kudos to them for trying to correct the problem, but after that I haven't been back. I just had some parts of my 60k service done at Mach V, which I was pretty happy with. I have been pretty happy with Mach V for the Subaru and PBC for the Mazda. |

Stohlman subaru, bittersweet, well, mostly bitter
So I checked out this thread because I needed to get my rear brakes and rotors replaced, and I just recently moved to the Centreville area. Hadnt been to a dealer up here yet and I was looking to see who I could trust. It seemed to me that stohlman in tysons was the most consistent, a few hiccups but nothing to bad, so I decided to go there instead of farrish which is a little closer for me.
Let me start by saying that this dealer is deff. a VW dealer first, Subaru a far second. They had five stations of writers servicing VW and only one to service subbies. No big deal at first because I set an apt. and already negotiated price. I went in knowing that the diagnostic would run me 50 (which i thought was BS but whatever) and the brakes and rotors should run me 400-450. When the service writer is getting started he pulls out the sheet and sais ok so it will be 98 to diagnose then we will see what you need. Right away I told him I had already gotten a quote of 50 and he looks at me and sais wells its 98. I said no, I was told 50, then he sais again well its always 98, which I returned with to bad, I was told 50 and Ill just go somewhere else where it will probably be free. He calls over his boss and he looks at it and after a little gripe sais yea we can do it for that. I already knew what was coming with the price of the instal, and that he was just going to jack it up an extra 50 to make it back. Sure enough they come find me an hour later and show me the sheet, $650 for rear pads and rotors. Then he hits me with, and your front wheel is bent thats 360, or we can rotate for 25 and that should take care of it, your ac belt is almost broken thats 150, and we probably need to do your front brakes to thats another 650. Yea right!! I go out make a few phone calls and the first meineke I talk to right up the street said they will do it for 400 for the rear. I take my time and I see them pull my car around back, looks just fine, all in one peace. I go in and tell the guy to let me get my car I found somewhere cheaper and Ill just pay the 50. Without even trying to do a better price he sais ok itll just be 10 minutes to do the paperwork. Over 30 min later I go find him and he tells me they had to put my car back together, and it would be another 10 min, WTF I just saw it pulled around the back. So he made me wait almost an extra hour for nothing since I would buy the parts. The kicker is, I leave, go to meineke, while in the lobby I see the stohlman parts truck pull up to deliver my pads and rotors, and bam an hour later Im on the road and saved 250. This might not be a nightmare like some are having with dealers, but I thought the salesman ship and service was BS, not a care in the world if they get busn or not. Yea it might just be a *****ty brake job for now, but any further service could have brought them in some green, oh well, more money in my pocket, less at the stealership. |

uhm..ok..we get it...your butt hurt.
next time figure out how to spin a wrench and do it yourself for a whole lot less. Brakes are easy. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1810597 oh...and there is a reason they have 5 service writers for VW....if you can't figure it out I can't help you. It isn't because they love VW more. |

I never saw anyone respond to this question:
Quote:
Also my opinion on some of this dealers. I have a 09' wrx from Stohlman which I feel ripped me off on the deal. Never had a a horrible experience with the service department but it hasn't been good either. More than a few times I asked them if the check the tires air pressure during routine maintenance, they said yes... 2 weeks later my tire pressure light turns on... I guess is shame on me for not checking it myself, but still... For my last service I went to Farrish in Fairfax, the only thing I can say is that their costumer service in the service department was horrible. But I went to get a quote for a car for my wife and the salesman was very attentive and he wasn't pushy... I might give a try to the Manassas dealer, I'm moving soon and their new facilities are 5 min away |

yeah. screw these guys. The salesman was constantly harassing me even though I told him I decided to buy from another place since they couldnt go down in price. Then he started to give me a lecture and stuff about how the service is more important than the price. I forgot who the salesman was

I took my 2012 Outback to Stohlman in Herndon for 2 years and was always happy with the service there. I only have dealt with Tom Wimmer (service manager) on my visits but he is always willing to take a look at my car if I think something funky is going on with it and I'm always in and out. I also bought the Outback from them and the sales process is was fantastic.
We bought the STI from Farrish in Fairfax and while the sales experience was good (we dealt with Ray and Sam) the service department can be difficult to deal with. I've had the car in for a few things and they have yet to actually meet one of their own deadlines when returning the car. |
