Hangs low and in no way shape or for "stealthy." I already tried it and it was tacky and complete waste of money. Not what the OP is looking for but I did my 9500ix above the rearview. Generally speaking, cops can't see it when they approach the car. There was a thread on here or iwsti where a guy did the hidden detector with mute similar to lukev, and had the display hidden in the air vent or something. Will have to look for it. |

Here's my setup. Bel sti magnum mounted on windshield above the mirror. It's behind a tint strip and the factory tint so it's not visible from the outside.
It runs down the driver side a pillar, to the panel with mirror control and headlight level control. To the right of the mirror button is a mute control and under is a on/off rocker switch. I need to get one with a red l.e.d. To match the interior though. |

I made a custom mount to hang right below my rear view so that I preserved the rear facing lens (for whatever that's worth) and ran my cabling under the headliner and the drivers side pillar. All the wiring goes to a main control board that has master on/off and mute buttons I installed into the dash next to the mirror and lights leveler. I also ran indicator lights right up under the drivers side corner of the dash by the windshield so I had easy view of alerts.

Having a radar detector legal greatly reduces your chances of getting a warning.

Or you could not speed... just sayin. Pay the price if you get busted rather than live trying to beat the system with something that now only works once the cop pulls the trigger. And by then its too late, you got pinged.
On a side note very nice installs i have seen on here, looks great! |

In my province of canada they are illegal,so stealth is a must. That's why I run the magnum, is because it's undetectable.
Also, where they are illegal here, cops always use constant on Ka band. Because nobody is supposed to have them, they don't have to use instant on. So, my radar detector basically saves me every time. Not that I speed too much over the limit, but cops tend to pick out a sporty looking car, and give me tickets. 3 years ticket free, thanks to beltronics |

Lol according to whom? Assuming you don't have a habitual bad driving record, you aren't going that much passed the speed limit, and mainly...you are pleasant and have a good demeanor, it's all up to officer discretion/ agency policy. Well in Florida at least.
The presence of a radar detector is irrelevant. Can an officer take it into consideration regarding his discretionary decision? Sure as much as the sound of your exhaust, or how dark your windows are, or anything else along those lines. Truth is, the officer probably already made the decision on what/if to write you for before approaching the vehicle(barring aforementioned conditions). But mostly no, lol, the presence of a radar detector alone will probably not cause that warning to be replaced by a citation. |

Is it possible to hide the entire unit in the dash or does it NEED to be somewhere out in the open to catch the signals?

its best to be in the open. but you could make a fiberglass pod or something to surround it on the roof, and then wrap it in alcantara or something. just leave the front open so the signal can get by.
also, if you put it high on the glass against the a pillar, it cant be seen from outside unless they put their eyes by the door handle(assuming they are looking from the drivers side). it just is a pain in the ass that you cant open your sun visor all the way |

the reason you want it hidden in states that are legal is that, after you get pulled over and they see it.. they will say they used a laser.. happen to my friends

Whaaaat??? If I was to pull you over, I don't have to articulate one bit on how I got your speed measurement; whether it be by radar, laser, or pace clocking. If you were speeding, you were speeding...that's all there is to it. If you DO get pulled over, the best thing you can do is be polite and respectful. Your friend had no idea what that officer was thinking.
As I already said, all I have to do is press the hold button and you won't pick up my signal until I release it. By then I have your speed measurement. I've tried with a friend in my wrx. |

Having the radar is one thing...and people want to say "just dont speed" but what im looking for is basicly the ascetics...anyone can stick a radar detector or gps or whatever add on units you have to the windshield or screw them to the ceiling.
I am looking more for things like awenthol has done and integrated it into something. |
