Well, you said Mechie can't link to FFR forum attahcments, but clearly he can. It's up to you to register at thefactoryfiveforum.com if you want to see the content hosted over there.
Anyone with anything more than passing interest in the 818 should be on that forum rather than waiting for bits and pieces to be syndicated over here. |

Caching has nothing to do with it. If you have permission to view FFR forum attachments, they will show up regardless of if you've already viewed them before or not. "Shaddap" is a bit of a rude reply, but I know its asking a lot to expect polite, reasoned discourse. Hotlinking images (Rule 7.J) is done all over the place here, get used to it. The proper thing would be for Mechie to provide a link to the post containing the images instead of hotlinking them, but you'd still be in the same boat, needed to login to the FFR forum. |

The proper thing to do would be to upload the images to a free and simple hosting site like imgur.. which would take all of 10 seconds. Rehosting is done all over the place here, get used to it. |

Taking images without permission that do not belong to you is not proper.

OMG stickers! That's why! Because everyone knows stickers + wing - performance= rice! (except, this has much more hp in a much lighter car than any ricer I've seen).
The 818R (blue version) is being shown at SEMA in Koni's booth. A lot of press has been given to Solidworks and HP as well during the whole process. An average looking car at SEMA gets passed over. A car that pops gets coverage. It's hard to stand out at SEMA sometimes. It's also meant to be a purpose built racecar to compete in a (possible future) spec series just like the cobra challenge car. Here's the latest shot. I rehosted on photobucket to prevent another page of whining. |

There is no rice in that thing at all. If anyone thinks so, their mind will quickly change when they see the light turn green. A cam job, external wastegate, large turbo, and a tuned bov, and it will not sound like rice while it is moving either.
I didn't like the tubular chassis showing at first, but it is starting to grow on me. It tells people that it isn't a cheap kit trying to look like a fancy car, it is an engineered race car from the ground up. Above that, it tells someone that it will absolutely blow their car away. |

I couldn't disagree with you more. I'm not trying to stick my nose up at the design of the 818, but I don't think the design is very good at all. I think one of the reasons for the final product looking "ricey" is because of the panels. The materials used in the production are cheaper than other methods for a reason. So people can build these cars for cheap and go race them around. I think we will see factory five continue to simplify the design over time. One of the key elements, for me, with any design in general is that the designer repeats certain design cues as the car transitions into its separate parts. For me, one of the first things I notice is the disconnection this car has between its headlights and its vents/intakes; on the front fascia, hood and the main vent on the side. To me, it looks like 3 different sections of 3 different cars. The cobra is a good example of this type of design thinking. Now, not everyone likes it, but throughout the design you see the same rounded design cues. Each piece flows well into the next part and fits well with the materials and processes used. As you walk around this car, you see lines that should continue into the other panels for a better transition, but they don't. This is just in my opinion as a designer, for whatever it is worth, but I don't see this car being as successful as it could be without a much better design.

There's some new pics up of the car. Looks great. Not sure the street chassis would pass the broomstick.
