Lightbulb What is your job now do you consider it your career?

What do you do during your waking hours to earn money? Do you like it? How long have you been working at that job and would you like to be there when you retire?

My job, while I enjoy it isn't my career. At least, not exactly.

I am a senior editor to a retail real estate directory and an editor on 5 other publications. No I will not be here when I retire... although working in this industry may be considered a career, I don't wish it to be mine.

I just began doing Litigation Technology Support. Whilst I don't consider it my career, it is definitely a career for many people.

UNIX Network/Systems Engineer/Administrator - no, I do not consider it my career. IT is teh suck - carrying pagers, working really late, having pressure to make stuff work or all your customers sue your company into the ground, the power to put my company outta business in one keystroke, all that - kinda annoying after 3 years. My last day is Friday, and next Monday, I will be starting what I hope is my career - Financial Advisor aka Stock Broker.

datawarehousing architect . . . i've kinda railroaded myself into a niche field (analytical R&D data) but the skillset is portable, so i guess this is it for me - i'm good at it and it doesn't make me want to take a flamethrower to the place.

I'm in IT. Since I've been doing it for 5 years now, I would say it is a career. I will probably be looking to change careers sometime in the next five years (retirement would be a GREAT choice).

Web application development.

It's a foray in other areas, so while it's not my career, it's necessary.

Accounting/business services, hate it, going back to school in Sept to become an Acoustic/Audio Engineer. That will prolly be my career, at least until I get this line of Frog Pate on the market.

We're having trouble trying to cook them, ****ers keep jumping out of the hot pan.
