Questions About Air Filter and Maf Sensor Location
Why is it that most stock intakes and aftermarket intakes have the air filter just in front of the airflow (or Maf) sensor? What would be the affect of attaching piping to a maf adapter and having it extended a few more feet to grab some colder air? Is it for turbulence purposes, sound frequencies?
Map sensored cars don't follow this 'rule' since even while stock, the air filter isn't directly behind it. I was just wondering..

Packaging and ease of service. Having some tubing before the MAF actually will let the air settle into a flow prior to entering the MAF. Turbulance will screw with the output signal....to the point of limp mode if it's bad enough.
If you can easily add a length of tubing (3" ducting) between the filter and MAF...it'd be a wise thing to do. Jay Storm |
