Default air fuel ratio gauge

how accurate are these? i hear that it isnt as good as using egt gauge??

It depends on what you mean by accurate. If you're talking about a gauge that connects to a standard 0V-1V switching oxygen sensor and indicates "Lean" when the sensor voltage is less than .45V and "Rich" when the voltage is greater than .45V, then it is very accurate. If it connects to a standard 0V-1V switching sensor and has indications of HOW rich or lean, then it isn't very accurate.

Model year 2000 and newer Imprezas also present a problem for a gauge that connects to a standard 0V-1V switching oxygen sensor because their front sensors are the wrong type and can't be used with such a gauge. That means you'd have to either connect the gauge to the Impreza's rear oxygen sensor (which is the correct type but located downstream from all of the catalytic converters) or you'd have to install yet another oxygen sensor of the correct type near the stock front sensor.

I'll let someone else discuss the pros/cons of tuning via EGT versus tuning via A/F ratio.
