Default Stage One engine performance upgrade for new VW Golf GTI

Quote:
APS of Brackley, is pleased to unveil a new Stage One engine performance upgrade for the MKVI Volkswagen Golf GTi.

Thorough analysis by APS’s technicians has enabled the development of an effective ECU remap for the newly revised version of VAG’s renowned turbocharged 1984cc, EA888 TFSI engine.

The standard MKVI Golf GTi produces 207bhp and 207lb.ft of torque. By comparison, APS’s Stage One ECU performance upgrade increases power to 250bhp at 5800rpm, while torque jumps to a mighty 292 lb.ft at 2650rpm.

On the road, this translates into significant performance improvements, with the 0-60mph time falling from 6.9 to 6.2 seconds, while top speed increases from 149 to approximately 155mph.

Priced at £599.00 fitted, including VAT @ 15%, the APS Stage One MKVI VW Golf GTi upgrade is available now. For total peace of mind, APS’s conversions are covered by a guarantee for the balance of the manufacturer’s warranty.

A UK based demonstrator VW Golf GTi MkVI, fitted with the APS Stage One performance upgrade, will be available for media testing soon.

6.2 secs to 60mph with 250 hp ... seems pretty sad.
Well VWs always seem to lose more power in the transfer process from the crank to the wheels.

292 lb-ft of torque through the front wheels??? I think my wrists would be broken like something from Ong Bak

The things got almost 300 ft/lbs at the crank. That 6.2 second run to 60 is probably damn hard to manage without ripping the tires loose.

boxerinside: wut? It will have way less powertrain loss than a Subaru. 0-60 isn't where a FWD vehicle shines. Plus, the 0-60 probably requires shifting to 3rd gear. That will add significant time (assuming 6MT and not DSG). I bet the 0-100 and 60-100 times on this thing are quite nice.

I know i know but it ALWAYS seem like VWs and Audis have the slowest 0-60 times compaired to their rivals with the same power.

You have to distinguish between manufacturer claims, magazine figures, US 0-60 mph numbers (with rollout) and Euro 0-62 mph figures (without rollout).

"For total peace of mind, APS’s conversions are covered by a guarantee for the balance of the manufacturer’s warranty."

So they're going to pay the bills when VW voids the warranty?

Seems like VW downplays the 0 - 60 times, they say 6.9 for the MKV while the car mags get it there around 6. Subaru on the other hand finds the lowest number anyones got and prints it in bold letters in the brochure.

No, they'll pay back what you spent on the warranty.

Agreed. The GTI is a more capable machine than the factory 0-60 times suggest. I have an 08 and it has been a pretty solid car and can be pretty quick on the road with its powerband. Of course, I miss my WRX and am currently trying to find a way into a new one, that I can afford.......

Dyno numbers posted on VWVortex suggest that the car is a bit underrated from the factory. There are multiple dyno sheets of stock cars floating around putting the same power and torque to the wheels as VW has rated them at the crank.

The car is relatively slow to 60 because it's FWD with no real limited slip differential, so it takes a little patience to get moving. It's not like getting punted out of a cannon; aka stomping on it in first gear in a Subaru.

VWs are ALWAYS slower 0-60 relative to any competition.

I don't understand what you're responding to. Your redundant post is redundant.

VW's competitors generally pack more horsepower and better off the line traction. I don't see how it's any surprise that it has a more difficult time getting to 60 than a WRX, or a Cobalt SS, or a MS3, or anything that comes with more horsepower, a mechanical limited slip differential, or more than one differential.
