Default OT need your help with lower back problems

So, after talking to many people I have come to the conclusion that my lower back problems are from my mattress. I'm only 21 and no longer have health insurence. Every morning I wake up my lower back hurts so bad that it hurts when I breath. But, normally it goes away with-in 45 minutes from when I wake up. So, I'm going to try an buy a new mattress but I know nothing about them. So, what I need is some advice or reviews on mattress that you have slept in. And or any good advice. Thanks!

Chris

a good bed for about a year and half till it starts sagging. Less, if you have a lot of sex in it.

Ideally you'll want a mattress that supports your spine equally. This basically means that when you lie on a mattress it'll let your head, shoulders and hips sink in more than the rest of you. This is important since your spine is a double curve.

I've got a king koil perfect contour and absolutely love it. Kinda pricy though, about $700 for a full mattress and box spring.

Also, stretch before going to bed (lightly) and stay well hydrated.

How old is your mattress? Did you turn / flip it so it doesn't develop a hollow spot where you normally lie?

A

My wife and I bought a king from these guys. Best bed either of us has ever had. 5 years now, no sagging, very very comfortable.

Getting a bed that's big enough will do wonders. It'll let you sleep however your body feels most comfortable, instead of contorting yourself to fit on too small of a bed.

If your feet hang off that'll increase the pressure on your lumbar spine (low back), lead to tight and shortened hamstrings which will further complicate your situation.

Can you bend down and touch your toes easily?

We'll we've found a place to start.

Try stretching your legs for a week and let me know if that helps.

Hamstrings attach to the ischial tuberosities (sit bones in your butt). If they're tight, they pull down on the bones which rotates your pelves backwards which flattens out the curve of your lower back. This causes your spinal erector muscles to work harder to maintain currect posture. They get overworked because a curved spine is much easier to stabilize (biomechanically).

If you'd like more details or how to go about stretching, or any other advice, PM me.
