im 29 and drive an 05 sti.

I seen an STI from my area at the dealership a few weeks ago. Always catches my eye because its newer than mine and always very clean. A tiny old couple in their 80's got out! All I could think about was "WHOA!!!"

I could see 18 and a full time job, but the 17yo kids that are still in high school don't have enough time to work to pay for a car. It's just nice to have a car from the parents, I had to work for 2 years before I could afford a beat up crap box.

Hmm yea my parents bought my focus. But I hated that thing. I've been working/ saving for like 4 years. Its not that unrealistic.. and I'm not in highschool.

Likely to be the oldest on the page... just turned 60 anos and planning on another 90 to 100 before permanently retiring.

First car (in '66) was a '57 'ord (F fell off) wagon I purchased for $175 with money earned working nights after school at Jack in the Box.

Bought it with a leaky rear main seal-probably put more oil ( .19/ can) in it than gas ( .45 / gal) per mile. It would leak copious amounts of oil when parked, making me somewhat of a parking pariah amoungst my friends houses.

Driven just about every make since then, but we are on our 8th Sube currently... an 2010 O/B and a 2008 Sti (preceded by a 2007 LTD Sti- my favorite ole bulldog!)

Like the looks of the LA concept, tryin to imagine the Sti hatch version.

Getting ready to take the Sti cross country for the second time in January... 12k roundtrip the first time... fun, fun, fun (daddy don't take those carkeys away!)

im 20

heres my car story

2000 ford focus(parents car now my little bro drives it)
that thing feels and sounds like it is going to fall apart the second you turn the key

then my grampa gave me his '94 miata m-edition because it needed a lot of body work and he didnt want to pay to make it pretty and no one would want to buy it in the condition it was in for the amount it was really worth
only had 79,000 miles on it and everything ran perfectly
drove that around for about a year
that thing was a blast to drive (especially on rainy days)
took it to a cheap body/paint shop
sold it for $3,650 and proceeded to to purchase my very beautiful 2002 wrx
i put down 5000 and got a bank loan for 5000 (the car was only 8,900 so i had some money for parts[radiator, timing belt, water pump, plugs, rebuilt powersteering pump, etc...]that stuff adds up fast )
anyways, my wrx is my baby and i love her with all of my hear
and my girlfriend likes it better than the miata because she doesnt feel like she's gonne die every time we get on the freeway

a side note:
even though i bought the car myself with my hard earned money, there is absolutely no way i would be able to buy it if i wasnt living in my parents house and eating their food

of course buying your 17 year old kid a brand new sti isn't going to help him at all in life

but even for those of us that bought our own cars and think we're all cool cuz we didnt get any help from mommy and daddy, we should be grateful for their support because i have a feeling im not the only 20 y/o who lives at home and is going to school
just sayin...

So I can't tell if you were going on my side? But the fact that yes I do live at home. And I get a huge amount of support from my parents but who's to judge?

A very good and well defined point too. I'm basically in that same boat. Working and paying for my own car, but only able to have the car at all thanks to the parents providing so much for me.
