I'm at about 17k miles I believe. When it comes to maintenance and keeping my scooby running for a long time, what should I be doing? Oil has been changed regularly thus far.

That's about all it needs... it's a Subaru!

Just follow the service manual for the car or you can find it on SOA's site.

On my '97 Outback Sport that I bought new and drove to 350K before trade in, I pretty much did the routine maintenance, I went synthetic oil at the 2nd oil change (this may or may not do anything, depending on where you fall in the synthetic/dino oil debate) and washed the car every 2 weeks, at a minimum.

Take care of the little problems fast, before they become big problems, and find an independent mechanic that you trust to tell you when stuff needs to be replaced or fixed, and when it doesn't, even though the manual may tell you it does.

It was a resilient car, to say the least, because I was a less than stellar driver during the 13 years that I owned it.

Hmm, you might be able to complain that the LED shorted your whole system and they owe you a fuse

Heres cheaper:

I have the panel ones with the "fake" bulb that connects with car and they work fine 0_o

Not sure if your talking about those tho

Also, what is the point on 89 oct? Would it be better? I tried it l last fill up and the performance and mpg was similar. I'm running 91 shell for a tank cause I'm going to be driving a long distance so I need the higher level. and it is suppose to "clean out the gunk" not sure if that is a marketing scheme our not

Your referring to the ones that DirknJirkn mentioned? Have any pictures for reference?
As for the 89 octane I honestly have no clue, every car ive seen is either regular (87) or premium (91), however I have heard the same idea that the higher octane will clean out your engine/tank and mainly because it will burn a little bit cleaner/hotter. Anyone else have some feedback on this?

89 is fine to run I personally run 93 and I get an extra 80mi a tank.

From what I have heard theres two tanks at a gas station. One holding 87 and 91 or 93 depending on the station and there is a ratio of 87 mixed with 91 to make 89. As for the "additives" that the gas stations claim to put in, a truck driver told me its up to the tanker driver to pour the additive in the gas tanks when they are filling them up. Some drivers don't add the additives.

Even 8 miles isn't great enough of a difference to make such a claim. My mileage per tank can fluctuate by 50+ miles depending on my driving habits.

Yeah, my dad knew a trucker who told him that it's pretty much the same gas at most of the stations.

this one Its pretty much the same one i have more or less

for the gas, i seem to get around 27-28 city & highway if i'm not WOT it all the time compared to my 24 on 87. but it does feel like the throttle response is better and i don't have that sputtering when im engine braking in 3rd or 2nd

Yes they should be plug and play, what we need for our dome and map lights are 31mm felston bulbs/LEDs. The rear license plate ones are similar to that of the trunk light. i forget the number.. If i find it ill let you know.

Not usable... Our cars are mapped for regular gas, which is i believe 87 in the manual. This means there will be no performance benefits even with a higher octane, all it really means is its easier to ignite. However, If we had an engine tuned for higher octane, it would be beneficial as the engine would be able to pump out more HP at the wheels with the reccommended octane (Ex: 89). However, if you put a lower octane in an engine that reccomends higher octane, you could misfire the engine and damage it (turbos), or reduce the performance of the engine (N/A engines such as the ones in an Infinity G36).

As for the gunk cleaning, im not sure if it really helps clean the engine..... However, I know putting premium gas into bad gas (gas sitting in tank for a few months), then it could help the bad gas ignite (i say this because i had this issue, where my gas had been sitting and there had been a possibility of water in the tank). Anyways my belief is that if those fuel cleaner systems, etc dont work from the auto store, they wont work from the pump either.

But each time, is not going to have the same weather patterns. Wind, temperature and weight of cabin all attribute to gas milage. Not to mention your own driving habits.

There is no way you got a boost of +90mpg with just switching over.

License plate lights are different than the dome light. They are 168 LEDs. You can use the bulb finder on superbrightleds.com to find each light for your car -> http://www.superbrightleds.com/vehic...agon/59/619/41
