I'm at about 17k miles I believe. When it comes to maintenance and keeping my scooby running for a long time, what should I be doing? Oil has been changed regularly thus far.

Just follow the service manual for the car or you can find it on SOA's site. |

Take care of the little problems fast, before they become big problems, and find an independent mechanic that you trust to tell you when stuff needs to be replaced or fixed, and when it doesn't, even though the manual may tell you it does. It was a resilient car, to say the least, because I was a less than stellar driver during the 13 years that I owned it. |

I have the panel ones with the "fake" bulb that connects with car and they work fine 0_o
Not sure if your talking about those tho Also, what is the point on 89 oct? Would it be better? I tried it l last fill up and the performance and mpg was similar. I'm running 91 shell for a tank cause I'm going to be driving a long distance so I need the higher level. and it is suppose to "clean out the gunk" not sure if that is a marketing scheme our not Last edited by Navysesal; 06-26-2012 at 06:26 PM. |

As for the 89 octane I honestly have no clue, every car ive seen is either regular (87) or premium (91), however I have heard the same idea that the higher octane will clean out your engine/tank and mainly because it will burn a little bit cleaner/hotter. Anyone else have some feedback on this? |

From what I have heard theres two tanks at a gas station. One holding 87 and 91 or 93 depending on the station and there is a ratio of 87 mixed with 91 to make 89. As for the "additives" that the gas stations claim to put in, a truck driver told me its up to the tanker driver to pour the additive in the gas tanks when they are filling them up. Some drivers don't add the additives. |

Yeah, my dad knew a trucker who told him that it's pretty much the same gas at most of the stations.

As for the gunk cleaning, im not sure if it really helps clean the engine..... However, I know putting premium gas into bad gas (gas sitting in tank for a few months), then it could help the bad gas ignite (i say this because i had this issue, where my gas had been sitting and there had been a possibility of water in the tank). Anyways my belief is that if those fuel cleaner systems, etc dont work from the auto store, they wont work from the pump either. |

There is no way you got a boost of +90mpg with just switching over. |
