Default Irritating rattle from exhaust?

I've got a 2009 Impreza RX and at around 2100 - 2200 RPM there is a rattle which resonates from around the engine/gearbox area. It only happens in that rev range and only under light acceleration or deceleration. If I put the boot in I don't hear it. My gut feeling is it's a rattle coming from the exhaust somewhere, it's reaching some point of resonation and that's causing the rattle. I've crawled under the car and can't find anything loose with the exhaust. It doesn't seem to have any other impact, it's not very loud but I notice it and it's annoying. Any thoughts people? I'm wondering if it's a common problem?

Is it just a loose nut or something on the heatshield?

"Subaru Australia released the third generation hatchback in September 2007. Naturally aspirated 2.0-liter versions fell under the R, RX and RS trims, with the turbocharged 2.5-liter reserved for the WRX. The sedan body style came later in 2008, paralleling the hatchbacks's model range."

Its just the heatshield itself not having enough support, so it can vibrate.

Rocks get in the heat shields also and then get trapped. The shields sometimes have drain holes and the rocks will get lodged in those. If you look under your car, you might see a few and be able to crush them with pliers and pull them out without having to remove the heat shields. Otherwise, its a matter of narrowing it down by sound and then removing the shields and dumping the rocks out. Really common if you drive on dirt or gravel roads a alot or do any of kind of off roading.
