Cabin air filter replacement
I found very little information on the web about replacing the cabin air filter (lots of ads on where to buy one though)
But for those interested heres a very nifty site http://www.cars101.com/subaru/airfiltration.html now i have never done this in my wifes car yet and dont plan to till the weekend (damn you daylight savings time) but from what i can tell all i need to do is remove the glovebox wtf is a string damper and why would i need to remove anything near the instrument panel i cant make heads or tails of the first pic they show on the tribeca

the string damper helps smooth things out and helps assist when opening or closing. the first pic they show is with the passenger instrument panel already removed (the panel on the side of the dash you can only see when the passenger door is open).
you don't have to do anything near the drivers side or center controls. it's not hard at all, just pop that passenger side panel and you'll start recognizing the pics in the tutorial you are looking at. visually split that first pic down the middle, the left side is showing a view of the right side of inside the glovebox, the pic on the right is a view of the panel removed that is inside the passenger door. don't feel bad, subaru instructions suck. Has anyone tried the trick that worked on my Focus SVT and Outback XT, which is to buy a regular air filter panel (forget correct depth - think it is 1") and cut it to fit into the plastic panel/holder???
This worked like a charm on both of my other cars, and for $4 dollars I have replaced two cabin air filters and have enough left to do about 4 more! That's a whopping big savings. |

the becas cabin air filter is about 1/2 inch thick. your idea might work and is definately worth giving a go next time i replace it and would definately be easier to find in a store. |
