Hey guys, I ran across a Version 8 ECU (a 580). We plugged it in tonight to an EJ207 swapped 04 WRX and it stated the car and ran fine. RomRaider accessed it with no trouble. Looking to get around $350 shipped. I just thought there might be some interest in this thread.

$4050 shipped.

What do you guys think of the avcs wiring harness and ecu?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JDM Nagoya offered me this

$3500 shipped. for the engine no transmission

From the transmission code it looks to be not as well of kept 1 year newer model v8.

Thats a question you should be asking the vendor. The ecu probably works but you should ask if the harness has been tested or is just simply cut from the donor car. It could be as useful as a paperweight at the moment, and waiting for you to salvage the plugs.

i did he said the wires that are cut run to the cluster.

from my understanding the avcs wires plug into 2 seperate plugs in the engine bay and you can swap the tvg wires over to take care of each side and i would only need 4 shielded wires to go from the engine bay to the ECU. This "avcs harness" should atleast let me run the wires from the engine bay to the ECU correct?

I paid 3500 for my v8 complete motor with downpipe/top mount and ECU. This was from JDM Racing Motors.

I dont see any reason to go with anyone else. They shipped it out on a monday and I had it by thursday.

wais quoted me $3500 shipped as well. sent me this video for compression test. it does not actually show any serial numbers during the video. should i worry this is a way to dupe me into believing this motor has good compression?

http://imgur.com/a/y3Bpg

Its seeming like robert at jdm racing motors is doing the best job. has included the most complete information but like some of you have said he was selling v8 for $3500 shipped now its $4000. he blames the cost increase on the 50k they have spend on customer support/small claims. i have the email if anyone wants to read it.

I have a V7 EJ207 swap in my WRX wagon. It has been flawless for about 4k miles and now recently I have been getting a P0390 Camshaft Position Sensor B Circuit (Bank 2) CEL.

The CEL does not come on when the engine is cold but when it is warmed up, it comes on anytime the engine is below 1200rpm. Anything above 1200rpm and it goes out right away. Besides the CEL, it runs perfectly normal. Based on the symptoms, it almost seems like it is related to oil pressure. Cold oil, no CEL. Over 1200rpm, no CEL.

I used the AVCS wiring kit from IAPerformance and had the original v7 ecu open ecu tuned by a local tuner.

Things I have tried:
-I have exchanged the front cam position sensor with a new Subaru sensor. No change.
-I cleaned the electrical connections at all 3 cam position sensors and AVCS solenoids. No change.
-I removed the oil screens that are before the AVCS solenoids. No change.
-I removed the AVCS solenoids and cleaned them with carb cleaner. The spools appear to move freely. no change.
-cleaned all engine grounds. no change.

Anyone have similar problems? Any tests I can perform on the sensors or solenoids? Is there a better cleaning procedure for the solenoids? Is my next step swapping the rear JDM specific cam sensors and solenoid valves? Could I have my tuner log anything that would give me some clues as to what is happening?

bump. picked this car up from my brother. we are still working to fix this frustrating issue.

We have since replaced cam gears, and replaced both rear cam sensors with new units from ia performance. tuner originally indicated avcs was functioning. Going to have it re-tuned tonight and log avcs. Anything specific we can grab to help with this diagnosis?

The only thing we haven't replaced is avcs solenoids. They were removed and cleaned. I was thinking of pulling them and swapping banks since we get p0390 on bank 2 (driver side) only.

like stated above under 1200rpm cel comes on, over it it goes out immediately but only when warm (assuming when water temp comes up). car idles fine and drives fine.

Could there be an issue with the ia performance wiring kit? a short someplace that would explain this. I've only ever seen one other car 02 sti v. 7 as well indicate same issue on a different forum, no resolution was found.

we checked oil pressure when car is running and it checked out fine.

any help would be appreciated.

Do you get the CEL constantly if you unplug the solenoid on just that one bank?

I'd try the swapping solenoid theory and see if it moves with it to help narrow down the possibility of a bad solenoid.

Have you tested for a short on those specific wires on the IA Performance kit? I think that would be pretty easy and also help eliminate another possibility.

I'll check for cel after unplugging on one bank. We did some data logging with the local tuner tonight. avcs one one side in normal driving was on 4 deg advance on one side, the other was 1 iirc. We then did a third gear pull from 3000 to 7500rpm and advance was 9 on one side and 3 on the other.

I plan on swapping the solenoid tomorrow and check the wiring.

3* and 9* timing?..Not enough advance, your avcs isn't working at all.
Re-check all your wiring.

quick question. i thought i saw the answer but i just want to be sure.

i have an 06 wrx that i blew the motor in. i have a line on a ver7 sti long block. emmissions arent much of an issue for me

what im wondering about is, if i use my manifold, and ascioated engine wiring and sensors along with my ecu will i have any issues beyond getting it tuned? ie do some of the sensors not swap over, avcs solenoids not responding to the ecu ect. physical differences in sensor placement ect.

The engine is not compatible with your 06 wiring and ECU. Sorry. You would have to swap the wiring harness and ECU to the older style car such as 02 wrx.

Why do you keep telling people this. Its not true. These motors can and have been run on 32-bit USDM cars with success, with some modification to the intake cam and sensor system of course.

Because it is not compatible. If you take the JDM ENGINE and ECU, it wont run in the 06 WRX, The JDM ECU does not fit ANY of the wiring.

What you are speaking of is taking a US ECU, swapping to US D25 heads or B25 heads or swapping the intake cams and sensors over into the JDM heads, Then you have a hodge podge of crap thown together with mis matched cams that does not run correctly. The man was asking about putting an EJ207 engine into his 06WRX.

This are further complicated with his 06 WRX. The 06 and 07 WRX where a unique ECu with a seperate Drive by wire processor. Subaru only used this for the two years before it was changed back.

As far as taking an EJ207 engine, correct JDM ecu and fitting it to his 06 WRX, the only option is to swap the wiring harness. This has been done before many times. I worked on one exactly like this recently and is the correct way to swap the engine in.

LOL, I guess someone needs to tell Alex that his car does not work. He really needs to know since he has been daily driving it for 4 months now. Pretty quick too. The power band on the US cams is really good, nice low end torque.

Oh and it passed CO emissions no problem.

Thats a forester with a V9 motor with US camshafts and sensors. NOT a JDM EJ207 engine with JDM ECU. Its a hybrid of a US and JDM engine with US ecu.

The modifications are minor to use the USDM intake cams and sensors. They really are. And the USDM STi intake cam is nearly identical to the EJ207 V8 intake cam so in reality, there is no mismatched cams (the USDM EJ255/257 intake cams have very slightly higher lift, but their duration is the comparable.

So basically, the end result is an EJ207 in a 32-bit car with AVCS functioning. No one said you need to use the stock EJ207 ECU. We know that won't work.

Which is what that poster was asking about: EJ207 in his 2006 WRX using his WRX ECU and wiring.

And we're saying it can be done with a little work. If you like challenges and are a technical person, this shouldn't pose a problem and the results should be neat.
