Default Used Oil Analysis - Motul 5W-30 - 2010 WRX - 3.5k OCI - 45k Miles

Seems to have turned out pretty well. This Motul is solid stuff.

This is a great choice for 2011 and later owners that want a robust 5W-30. It's API SM, meets Euro ACEA A3 and several Euro manufacture specs, has a high 30 weight starting viscosity like GC, and is not Resource Conserving.

The only thing that puzzles me is the high zinc. X-clean is Mid-SAPS (Sulphated Ash Phosphorus and Sulphur) to meet Euro IV and V emissions and the phosphorus and zinc for reduced SAPS Euro oils is usually close to GF4 and GF 5 oils.

Any chance you ran a high zinc oil previously or threw in Red Line to top off with?

I noticed a difference in the OP's UOA with regards to Molybdenum. If mine read higher is that from my oil or my engine? I use Rotella T-6.

It's a friction modifier in the oil. Race oils have more, diesel oils have less. Subaru/ Idemitsu factory fill has more. Since moly can lead to ash/deposits, oil additive companies are coming out with new versions that allow the use of smaller doses with the same results as larger doses. Google trinuclear moly.

50/50 mix of long commutes on the highway and sitting in traffic on 287 and Easton Avenue.

I take it relatively easy on the car but like to wind it out every once in a while. Car has a Torqued Performance Stage 1 Tune.

I've been using the same type of Motul for the past 20k or so miles.

I've been using Motul 8100 X-Clean C3 5W-30 for the last 20k or so miles. No top off with Redline or any additive.

Car burned some oil early on in its life when filled with the Subaru Synthetic 5W-30. Switched to this stuff 20k or so miles ago and it has not burned even a drop since then.

I can't find any limitations on zinc for C3 oils, only phosphorus and sulfur. BS doesn't test for sulfur and the limitation on phosphorus is 900 ppm's.

There are no limitations on viscosity so it doesn't even matter if this was the 5W-40.
