yeah I wasn't thinking so either. I'd still need the drivetrain but he said he has all the parts I'll need minus a tranny, wiring harness, and intake manifold lying around. I could pick up those for 1000 I'm thinking. I would like to get the PPG geared wrx tranny, but I don't have enough money for both. Out of the two options I'd rather go with the upgraded engine and maybe find a 6 speed to drop in since it would be cheaper than the ppg geared 5MT. I still have to look into a 6 speed setup though. Which one you think is the better pick?

The Guys that have gone from ppg to 6 speed say they don't regret it. You're in a spot where you have the choice to do it because everything is being changed anyway. Go 6 spd, dccd, the whole nine; you'll need the rear diff as well.

I'm personally going for PPG, just to annoy my neighbors that much more

Plus I read that there's more of a wiring headache with the 6 speed since it has the adjustable gearing thingy where you can change it from S to S# etc. You have any experience doing that kind of work?

I just said 06 because I didn't want to put 04-07. I was lazy lol.
Get a 6-speed, wire in an aftermarket DCCD controller, call it a day. 6-speeds and 5-speeds are entirely different animals, and after dealing with both built 5-speeds and a 6-speed, I will never recommend a built 5-speed again.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. Now I just have to find one lol. Still debating whether 7K is too much for his set up or not though. Good thing is I would never have to touch the internals if I bought it. Bad thing is it's 7K lol. And most of the STI tranny swap components are running around 4K altogether. BUT that is a mean setup for 12K. Including FMIC or new hood, new wheels, and a tune. Gahh choices lol.

Not necessarily true. Keep that in mind. It's built, yes. Meant to sustain a higher horsepower, but, there's still plenty, if not more that can go wrong. At this point, you should know that everything is a gamble when you venture from stock. Sad, but true.

Yeah that's true. I guess it really depends on the quality of the work. IDK though. the more I think about it the more I think I can't spend 7K on the engine with all the other parts I need to do the swap. I REAAALLLY Want to, but i don't think it's possible to stay in my budget with that engine.

Well damn i missed alot lol.

ECS is a great swapping company, my friend got his 01 rs wrx swapped there. Had it done within a month, went back and picked it up. He loved it, had slim to none in problems, but hes selling it now

All of these sound good, ECS' price doesnt include the swap just all the parts though right?
If so that sounds really high lol.

ECS's price includes everything. Including all the install, wiring and a tune. For just the parts it's 12,000. The work and fluids and stuff is the extra 6.

Reading back some... If you went Fmic, you wouldn't need to change your hood. Keep it stealth. But it's personal preference. Just don't go carbon fiber. I think yours is steel though correct? Wrx hoods are aluminum, so there's weight to figure in as well. But there are plenty of guys that have gone front mount and are looking to trade for an RS hood. There's more deals out there than you think. Just finding the right ones at the right time.

Darn I really wanted to give em a shot too lol.Good that you didn't get rid of them though. I would have been upset.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I was thinking of swapping to the wrx hood because of the weight difference, but I'm not making it a race car anytime soon(eventually this car will become my second car though which is when I'll really start dropping money on high end parts like Big A$$ turbo's lol). I want a good strong engine that can take a beating and a handle any power I decide to put in it in future years which is why I like the sound of going ahead and buying the built long block, but I'm not worried about shedding 75 pounds that much. Plus if I get a wrx hood I'll have to paint it to match which is another cost and time thing that I don't really want to worry about.

I just have to find the right front mount. the DR525 looks good and fits into the power band I want to be in, but I don't know where to get one around here. I'm just going to keep an eye on the parts for sale thread and hope one pops up or something else that's in the price range. And then I need to find a intake manifold that will fit his engine. He said mine will fit so I may just do that if he's correct??? Then all I should need is a wiring harness and the 6 speed swap components.

When I looked at the ECS breakdown they're wanting 12K for just the parts for the swap. So I think if I use that number as my budget number I'll be good to go. I can get the built engine, a wiring harness/ECU, an intake manifold, a FMIC, and the tranny swap stuff for about 12K if it works out right. And that's better than a standard STI engine tranny swap in my books.

currently we're not. But we are going to start it back up in the spring time. A specific date will depend on the level of interest and the weather. the OP will be updated once it's been decided though.
