So I'm looking to buy this 04 Impreza Wrx Sti and the numbers were all extremely low I got 113-115 when I did the test which seems extremely low.
Hot motor, all spark plugs out, tried two different gauges, turned motor over 10 times each cylinder, held throttle all the way down. Does the number really matter as long as the numbers are close to each other? By the way the car doesn't burn hardly any oil, no more than regular amount.

Should be around 140psi in all cylinders (120 would be the low limit). You never want a car to burn oil, I would walk away. If it stock, walk away. If it moded and cheap then weigh your options. A shortblock would be an easy 2+ grand, increase thr price if a shop is doing the install.
Do a leak down if your still interested. That will tell you the health of the motor. |

Yeah the thing that has confused me is I did a compression test on 2 2004 Sti now and they both only read to 115psi! But all 4 cylinders are equal, I rented a different gauge after using the one I own just to make sure it wasn't my gauge. Could being in this freezing cold weather affect anything?

Could be the gauge could be the wear....only one way to find out...but a worn out gauge is no different than a worn out engine

I tested an 03 and a 02 recently and they both showed 120 psi. Because they were all the same we pumped them up and they both run really good.
