Not that I'm any professional, but I've noticed quite a bit of progress in my shoots and had this problem as well. It's all about learning your settings. |

Sorry guys, I'm alive! Really, I am! I'm going to start catching up now, but in the meantime here are a few things I've shot lately...
I shot the new 2014 Corolla for Toyota USA on a crazy stormy day here in Seattle: The really awesome thing is that I also shot Toyota's media event the next day, and they had my photos already up on a gigantic screen! I've never seen my photos this big before: See it all here: http://www.arminausejo.com/2013/09/2...or-toyota-usa/ I also shot a pretty awesome sunset: I had a guest post about shooting drifting on Nikon Rumors: http://nikonrumors.com/2013/09/28/gu...drifting.aspx/ Shot some crazy drifting in the rain at our inMotion Car Show and Drift Event: http://photos.arminausejo.com/Events...inMotion-2013/ Shot some film with my dad's old Canon A-1 with some Kodak TRI-X 400 B&W film: http://photos.arminausejo.com/Friend...0-AugSep-2013/ And finally shot the Seattle skyline in the fog last weekend with my new (to me) Olympus OM-D E-M5: |

Nice angle and elevation on the first one. The only thing that's really distracting about it are the reflections, but you can't really do much about those other than removing them in post processing. Even a polarizer won't be able to get rid of them since the car is dark. The motion shots could be a bit sharper, and the static shot in the garage could use a little more exposure.

The biggest problem you have here is the amount of available light. You're losing light fast, and shooting a dark car in the dark never really turns out good results. Your white balance is also a bit off (it's too cold).

Looks great, but I think you definitely need more light to bring out those shadow details. Be careful with hotspots too. What did yo use for lighting on these?

Seems like you've got a little oversharpening going on, since you've got some jaggies on the wheel spokes and grille. I might get a little lower if possible so that we can see the shadow of the rear passenger wheel, since I think that'll help your overall composition. I'm also not too sold on the location either, since it just doesn't seem to compliment the car very well.

You really can't do proper light painting unless it's totally dark out. If there's still light in the sky or from street lights, then just doing long exposures will work out a lot better. Try to keep Rule of Thirds in mind too, since most of your photos are pretty center-oriented.

Nice looking wall. I'd suggest trying to put more space between the wall and the vehicle so that you can give more visual separation between your subject and the background. Overall, I think you could use a little more exposure as well.

Your compositions are pretty good, but I think the mixed lighting is throwing off your white balance a bit. You can definitely see it in STI shot...that blue is not quite WRB, it's a bit too cold overall. |

That's pretty damn spectacular. The only thing is that I wish there was either more rain drops (to make it look like it's totally wet everywhere in the photo) or that there were no rain drops on the car at all. With just a bit of rain on it, from far away it almost looks like there's ISO noise. The red saturation is also maybe a little too high, but it still looks great nonetheless.
