Advan Neova AD07
THE launch of the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 puts the spotlight on two other fairly new high-performance tyres - the Yokohama Advan Neova AD07 and Continental SportContact.

Advan is the performance offshoot brand of Yokohama, and its latest offering, the Neova AD07, promises high levels of grip, stability and steering feel in both wet and dry. The Neova boasts an array of active and passive features that optimise traction and performance, as well as alleviate the
stresses and heat inflicted on this 'soft-compound' tyre during intensive driving sessions.

Compared with its rivals, the AD07 has the more visually-arresting tread pattern design. Some innovative cues provide the dedicated enthusiast with an engaging and involving drive - dimples on the edge of the side-walls to aid heat dispersion, and 'groove-in-groove' design to lessen the stress on the block edges, among others.

The Micro Silica tread compounding process has resulted in increased silica in the compound, which helps provide better overall grip. Intensive research has also gone into ensuring the contact patch of the four tyres remains consistent throughout a whole series of driving manoeuvres, such as cornering, acceleration, braking and when the vehicle is stationary. This is said to give the driver balanced and more predictable responses in different circumstances.

On the move, the cornering grip levels of the AD07 are high and exceed those of the AVS Sport, another high performance Yokohama tyre - although in the case of the latter, some consideration towards ride comfort was incorporated into the design. The steering feel of the Neova is also communicative, with a sharper turn-in response.

Under braking - light or hard - you can feel the tyres digging into the road surface for a drama-free halt. It's no exaggeration to say that on normal roads, it's unlikely the ability of a normal driver will exceed the limits of the Neova.

This is the stock tire for the Lotus Elise (base suspension, not Sport Pack). That's why the Tire Rack carries them only in these two sizes.
