Here is a good example of what I'm trying to do with the new Alternator, which has an internal voltage regulator unlike the factory one: Ya, let me know the dimensions of the fan. I'm not sure what size of fan I'll need for the radiator in terms of diameter, but I do know I don't have a lot of depth to work with...

Do you have room for pusher fans? Could increase overall room and even keep the engine bay cleaner. Mounted up front, they're not quite as efficient but I don't think that engine will be generating massive amounts of heat.

Does anyone know what this is?
The black dot on the front is supposed to be where a bulb shows light through, and there is a switch underneath. It has 3 wires going to it, but I can't find it on any of the factory diagrams or parts/service manuals. |

high beams + indicator maybe?! i know older cars used to put the high beam switch on the floor and you would hit it with your foot...just a guess?

Sounds funny, but it may be a seat belt light lol. My Nova has one low on the dash like that. Doesn't work anymore, but it's funny that it's there for how old it is. For the longest time I had no clue what it was until I shined a light through it.

High beams might be possible, I'll have to trace the wires and see if that might be it.
Its not seat belt lights, there aren't any wires to/from the belts |

OK, I traced back the wires for that thing...
1 wire goes straight to the brake proportioner (passanger footwell) The other wire goes to a spot where it splices into 3 other wires: 1 goes to the gold fuse/turn signal switch thing 1 goes to the dome light wiring 1 goes to the old radio/cigarette lighter area Any ideas??? |

For those who were asking, here are some wiring diagrams. None of them exactly match the car:

Question:
I don't have a positive or negative wire yet. What should I do for that? |

What ever you do, be sure to use a fairly large gauge wire. You don't want to have to do a "grounding kit" on your rebuilt car.

NAPA sells these nice pre-built positive and negative wires in specific lengths, but I don't have a good enough understanding of how they work to know what to get yet...

Are you completely re-wiring or are you using the old harness and maybe tidy it up and upgrade a bit by installing relay's to take some of the load on the switches?

Well I don't know, I don't know anything bout relays so... Don't know. The hella horns have a relay, and I think my power socket kit has a relay, so I can add those I guess.
All I know is the original positive/negative wires from the batter are useless. Not only did I move the battery but they were falling apart due to age/use. |

The car has a negative ground system right? If you search relays they are many diagrams and they are used for different things like headlamps, horns, electric fans etc. it is very simple. They can be wired into an existing system.
An example: Starter, I positive wire from the battery (+) and one wire from the ignition switch to the solenoid. Ignition coil, 1 wire from the ignition switch or fuse box to the + terminal of the ignition coil and the (-) marked terminal to the contact point and condenser inside the distributor. Alternator, 1 wire goes to the battery from the alternator this is the larger gauge terminal usually round. The smaller contacts are for a wire that also goes to the ignition and another goes to the charging light. I hope some of these help. Good Luck having a tester would be of great help. |

For the starter, you mean the large red cable goes straight to the starter from the positive terminal, correct? And there is a second wire that goes to the Ignition from the starter? I found that in my wiring harness.
For the ignition, everything goes straight to the MSD. Both the distributor AND the coil according to the diagrams from MSD. It also says one wire goes to a switched source and another to the positive battery. For the switched source, where should I be connecting it in according to those diagrams a couple posts up? For the Alternator I'm having more issues. The new alternator has 3 wires basically (1 plug, 1 which connects to the screw spot which is I presume the "Insulated" wire as its thicker and white) while the old one had 4. I can't figure out what should be done to correct this and eliminate the voltage regulator. I'm also not sure about eliminating the interior lighting I'm not using. I'm also not sure about the tachometer. The horn I figure I can use the old wiring but add the Hella relay, would that be the correct thing to do? And the power socket, should I use a relay for that? The socket I have came from a "kit" for like a 2000+ double-socket Forester so it has a wiring diagram and such inside. But the old power socket was just ONE wire going to it as per the diagrams. |
