South Coast Subaru - big time positive!
Had to bring my 03 WRX in for maintainence and I figured I'd go ahead and put in all of those parts that had been collecting in garage, tempting me...
I'd heard a lot of good things about Irvine Subaru service last year, but when my wife called she got treated "not so politely" by someone on the phone --- since I'm a noob I figure I'd search for someone with a little more patience. Both Chris and Ferdie helped me out and were way cool about it. As I said, I had been collecting bits and pieces for the latter part of last year, and I basically went in and asked them to install what I lacked the time (in some cases) or skill (most cases) to install. There were a lot of little glitches and whatnot along the way that they not only took care of, but explained both the situation and solution to me, including some real PITA stuff. At one point I actually ended up trading emails with Ferdie waaay after closing, and it turned out he was working on my problem...I don't know if this is the norm, but it hasn't been in my experience with others. Bottom line: They were cool, they were quick and I've never been happier with my 03 WRX --- she went in stock save a Stromung catback and came out with an STi uppipe, Stromung downpipe (w/high flow cat), a Protorque'd TC, a Hayden tranny cooler, Perrin IC hoses, a Cobb reflash, Cusco adjustable rear sway bar, kartboy endlinks and prodrive springs (among other small things)....along with getting in some uncooperative omori multicolor gauges. Mucho thanks, guys! I'd recommend y'all in a heartbeat. PS: Oops, was so intent on getting my .2 cents out here, I totally blew past another review....sorry folks! Id have to agree with you. Ferdie knows what he is doing and has always given me great advise. He even went as far as helping my friend with his subaru on his day off. That is what you call service. I was surprise to hear that Ferdie would come to his house and help install the safc. Ferdie Rocks!!! Gary |

South Coast Subaru Parts Dept =)
Just ordered 5 up pipe studs from them. I needed them shipped to my parents place in LA and they told me they would ship it for free. I got a good price on the studs (not going to name any numbers) but it was more than what i could get at discount from other places.
A parts worker named Patrick was helping me out (i called about 3 times). Great guy, even spent the time to chat a little. All in all, i am very happy, they gave a quote on the spot, told me they would ship it for free (which made me even more happy), and said they could try to get it to me by friday or next monday. great parts department, will definitely do business with them again. |

South Coast over charges for service!
Simply put a 15k mile intermediate service is $199 at South Coast and only $129 at Irvine Subaru.
They use to only charge $99 but they doubled the price. They are the |

They overcharge eh?
Price doubled? What did they do prior, and what are they doing now? What does Irvine perform at the 15k versus southcoast Subaru. Did you even ask what gets done? |

We can compare parts and actual changes with Irvine. I dont exactly know what Irvine does in their 15k but I do know what we do.

All South Coast does is what is required in the service: change the oil, oil filter, air cleaner, rotate the tires, top off fluids and inspect belts, brakes, hoses, suspension and other wear items. Irvine does the same just for a lot less money.
Anyways it's a factory recommended service dealers that add anything to a normal service are just out to get more money from the customer. The more work they do the more money they will make. |

Not entirely true. What is in the manual is the bare minimum needed to keep the vehicle running. Dealers can add items to the maintenances as they see needed for their particular area. For instance on the 05 Legacy the air filter is not recommended until 30k, however in AZ they may change it every 15k due to the amount of dust in the air. Up here in Detroit we might recommend a fuel system cleaner every 15k due to the questionable gas quality, whereas in Troy (only 30 miles away) they may not do it as the gas is of a better quality (newer stations and tanks, less contaminants than old rusty tanks in Detroit) Thos are just a few examples. Other times dealers may continue doing what has worked for them in the past, we haven't been doing the Subaru thing for 30+ years and not learned anything |

Irvine does not call there service a minor they call it an intermediate and they claim to do the same work as South Coast. Please give me specifics, I've talked to both dealers and ran through the list of items for the service.
Anyways a service should always go by the factory recommendations, anything that costs extra an is not recommended by the factory should be run by the customer first. |
