I talked to one of the sales guys that was suppose to get the sale if we did buy it from them and he said he was pissed at the financing department. Because of the stupid financing guy trying to scam us, he lost a sale.
We did ask to see my buddies information and they told us to wait... and we waited... and waited... I guess they hoped we would just leave. But we stuck around and they eventually showed us his near tier 1 credit score. We just left after that. The financing person at south coast we delt with was some young asian guy that had this know it all attitude. Either he was told to get a crap APR so the dealership could get more money or he is just not good at his job. |

It's always in the dealer's best interest to get you the best rate possible. The dealer itself is not financing you. They don't really "care" what rate you get and rarely have much room to negotiate, if at all. Leasing is a whole other story, but far too complex to get into here...
Sorry, but my understanding of how dealerships operate make me say your friend has some credit issues that are giving him that 10.8 rate rather than the dealer trying to "screw" you. Spill your guts, post this guy's credit score, debt, income level, length of employment, type of employment, etc. Not like anyone of us knows him or needs to even know any other information unless you choose to post it. Does he have any late payments on his credit? Any unpaid balances? Especially with no previous car loan, even one or two marks are going to kill you. Unpaids are horrible and you shouldn't even bother applying for credit until you get them fixed. Was he looking to put zero down? Another bad idea for a first time buyer... The BBB or any dealer comission isn't going to do **** for you. Move on with your life. Go shop at a different dealer in the next town over and see if they can do better than 10.8 on the same car. If you can do better, then deal with someone else. I'm not buying the story until you verify another dealer gives you a much better rate. It just doesn't vibe, buddy. You even said he is a first time buyer, which probably means his credit is limited. FICO score isn't everything, although as a first time buyer, young kid, I have a hard time believing his score is over 700. Also, longer terms, higher debt/income, higher payment/income, all contribute to higher rates. For a large part, dealerships with experienced finance agents won't call every bank they have available. They'll have an information service that will let them spit out a pretty accurate quote on rates from each bank with a few simple inputs. So it isn't at all a suprise they didn't "contact" Subaru financing. They can probably look on a chart for the rates, or use a program, or online service that will be pretty accurate. You're trying to buy a $32,000 car with no previous car loan. This isn't unexpected. Move on with your life, or live with the high blood pressure... |

'Dealership financing' isn't always through the corporate company. It's entirely possible that the 10.8% interest rate they were offered was from a bank down the street where the dealership has a kickback arrangement set up. Thus, there is tremendous incentive to get the customer to pay as high an interest rate as possible. Read this article: http://www.bankrate.com/brm/news/auto/20001129a.asp |

There isn't as much incentive as you'd like to think. Simply because of problems like this, it isn't in the dealerships interested to go too nuts with financing.
I want to know what rate this guy got elsewhere, (direct with a bank or through another dealership), under the same term length and loan amount. |

did u know everytime your credit score is checked it goes down. so once the night before and once she did it. but it wouldnt go down 50 pts from 2 checks. never sign the credit release until you have the price you want on the car, credit check later. because if they check and u dont end up buying the score it dings u.

That sounds like a good deal for people looking for the ltd and spec b. South Coast eh? So that would be in Mexico? Florida? California? Please be more specific on your location.

South Coast Subaru came through on Warranty work
I took my car for oilchange at a mom and pop place with around 40k miles for an oil change. he told me that there was oil around the diff, concerning for leak at the differential pinion seal.
I take the car to South Coast subaru. They called me saying they would replace the pinion seal. Couple hours later, they call me back saying that the Subaru area rep advised that the whole Diff be changed under warranty! My car is 2002 WRX and was 2 weeks from the powertrain warranty ending on the 5 years technicality. The service was done the day the parts arrived. They got rid of a bunch of squeaks in my car and i got a car wash too. Bottom line: I got a new differential 2 weeks from the warranty ending which was way above and beyond what I was expecting. I got lucky becuase i dont race my car, use any aftermarket power mods, and have a friendly dealer nearby. Two thumbs up for Southcoast Subaru in Costa Mesa, CA. |
