There are a lot of things to account for when making your choices. There are affordable options that retain sound quality, and there are affordable options that sound HORRIBLE. It is fairly easy to put together an "affordable" system that sounds great. Just make sure you know what you are buying, and know what you want before you start buying stuff.

I would be more than happy to go over car audio stuff with any of you at the meet on Thursday.

You are welcome to come over and listen to my setup, I would bring it out but there is currently no engine in it.

I have a set of Polk db6501 powered by a Alpine MRP-F300 and Pioneer AVIC f700BT with the rears speakers turned off. The speakers and amp are less than $250 and sounds great, if you're not an audiophile. You will have to use spacers on pretty much every set of aftermarket speakers in the front doors, I am using Kartboy spacers. My doors also have sound deadening and dampening added which made a difference in road noise as well.

I can def handle $250 no prob. I'm assuming you're running the stock head unit?

Sound deadening and dampening... dynamat?

I have an older deck a Pioneer AVIC f700BT.

I don't have any pictures of the doors it seems, but here is my hatch area, my doors got the same treatment inside and out.

I used Raammat BXT II then Ensolite IUO Peel and Stick on top.

I've read up briefly on using forms of noise deadening like dynamat. Does it REALLY make that much of a difference, mainly if you're not interested in a sub(s). Prob a dumb question but I've never heard/seen a car with any form of noise deadening in person. I'm mainly interested in getting solid speakers that will give me good mids and highs but also "enough" bass. I used to have 2 10"s a while back in a box, you know, the typical teenager style. I'm definitely no longer interested in that much bass or that sound.

The noise (road) seems to be cut down quite a bit, but I have no proof of it or any db readings before or after. Doors are sealed, they are much more solid when shutting them. I did the hatch area as see above, and also the hatch door, as well as all the cables in the hatch to stop all the rattles. I am not using a sub and have no intentions of doing so. If anything I'd replace the rear speakers with some speakers for mids. I did the bass thing many years ago in another vehicle, but I also had upgraded door speakers so it didn't sound like ****.

Yea I like the features of it, seems to have everything I'd need. I checked best buy bc my buddy gets a discount there. So I wanted to make sure I was looking at something they carry.

I have 40% on all side windows and 20% on the rear. I wouldn't mind a little darker on the side, but with VA being so strict on tint I didn't want to push it.

Yea, I can't remember what I had on my BMW but I thought it was perfect. I wanna say it was 20%... I think legal in VA is 35%?

The front drivers side and passenger side windows are supposed to be 50 and anything further back can be 35.

Yeah they are really strict about it for some reason. Although you can get a waiver from your eye dr that allows you to have darker tint legally. Not sure how dark though.

Pretty sure that waiver just allows you to bring the fronts down to 35%

I'm not huge on the way it looks but I may get the strip across the front windshield bc the stupid sun makes it almost impossible to see on the way home from work from Arlington.

35% all the way around and a 20% strip on the windshield. On a black car. With a black interior. And black wheels. I haven't been harassed by cops... Even WITH my full catless exhaust...

Word, yea that's exactly what I was thinking about doin - 35% all around and 20% in the front. Is the 20% enough for the strip?
