Upgrading your stock map with newer version?
I understand there are typically multiple versions of an ECU rom image for a particular model and year.
In my case, there are three rom images from Subaru for the 2004 STi. What I'm a bit unclear on is what the preferred procedure is for reflashing with a newer rom version. Assuming I don't have the newest version, should I: A) Download my current stock ECU rom image and put it away for safekeeping and then upload the newer stock image version back to my ECU. or B) Download my current stock ECU rom image and put it away for safekeeping and then cut and paste the values from the tables in the newer rom image into the tables for my current rom image, and then reflash my "updated" old rom image? Am I missing something that would point me one way or the other? -Michael

I would do option A, reflashing to the newest revision is recommended.
Nobody had a newer revision of the ECU I was trying to reflash so I had to do Option B. |

It doesn't matter. In some cases the older maps were better. I know the early 02 ECU had a much higher resolution for fuel and timing maps as compared to the later revisions.

It does matter. Copying the maps visible in one of the tuning tools from a newer ROM image to an older one generally won't incorporate all the fixes because the fixes frequently involve changes to code logic and to tables not visible in the tuning tools.
Option A is the way to go. |

Is there any proof that a newer map has changes to the code?
