What pads?
I will doing my first "High Speed touring" event at our local track on the 30th. I am going to order all my brake upgrades I will need to run out there. But my question is what pads will best fit my needs? I have put a list of what my setup will be come race day. I just need help on what pads to run. Oh and this is my daily driver.
Car 2003 WRX wagon Power Level Stage 2 setup Brake Upgrades 1. ATE Super Blue Fluid 2. Goodridge Stainless Lines 3. Pads??? Im not going out there to set lap records, I just want to be able to go out there and have some fun without worring about brake fad issues. This is my first time and just want to see if I even like it. Thanks for any and all help! Noobie out, Josh

Carbotechs.
I say that not having used the DTC's. I do know the carbotechs won't eat your rotors and you can drive on them to and from the event. The dust from the carbo's won't corrode your wheels unlike some track pads. |

buddy and myself drove to and from VIR with DTC70s. Besides the noise they worked fine lol. Hey had XP12s and doesn't plan to go back.
Even drove 80 miles a day to and from work for two days until I had time to swap my HPS pads back on. I washed my rims off when i swapped the pads back but that is just good maintenance ppl! |

You are going to be in group one - and have lots of trains. Full on race pads are not required.
You have an 03 - do you knwo what pad shapes you have on your car. Most have D929/D770 - but not all. An HP+ is borderline at best - especially on small WRX rotors - but again - in group one I think they aer a decent place to start. XP8's are another low friction pad. DTC70/60 or XP12/16 - those are high friction track pads. My first guess would be you have not enough tire nor skill to take advantage of them -and they ain't cheap. HT-10's and new plain rotors is what I would try to sell you I think. |

I have a friend that has an STI that recommends the Ferodo DS2500's for me. He said they are very similar to the HP+ pads but without the noise. After thinking about it I really dont want much noise if any at all since I will be using these on the street also.
thanks for all the insight guys!, Josh |

2500 are good - unfortunately they don't make them for the front of your car unless you have 02 front brakes
But they are as noisy as HP+ - less bite - higher temp range. They are a good newb pad |

DS2500's can't take a lot of heat. I went from DS2500's to PFC-01's and the difference was night and day. PFC-01's can take a lot more heat. They don't take long to get up to operating temp either. Not sure if they make PFC-01's for you brakes though (I had an 05 STi I ran them on).

Since its your first time you wont need too much of an aggressive pad like mentioned, but that's something to look into for the future. |

Just my street tires for the first time out. They are a little worn on the inside, but I was told to not buy new tires for my first time out. I was told the track is hard on tires and to just buy some new ones after the my first time out. This track day will be a huge learning experience for me. I just want to not have to limit my time on the track with fadded brakes.
thanks for all the help everyone!, Josh |
