Toyo Proxes T1-S?
Anyone running this tire in a 17" on an RS or WRX? What do you think of these tires? Treadwear life/wet & dry traction/ street performance comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Punk

I run them on my other car and have changed to them on my scooby from so2's.
Great tyres!! hey the tyre is japanese. The so2 is the number one choice in the UK, at higher cost and the Toyo is number 2 choice. I am sticking to Toyo T1S well worth the money, I drive my car hard running 20psi 290bhp 280lbs T. TC |

Thanks TopCat,
From what I've read and heard from others, I think I'm gonna love these tires on my WRX. I'm just afraid to put them on tomorrow as we always get a few wet snow storms in April and I know they are gonna suck in snow! Punk |

These are a good tire, a few of the S4 crew run them and are really happy. Want another inexpensive tire choice?
AVS Sport.. Quite inexpensive and people seem to really like them |

Great tires. I've had WAY better wear than I expected and they stick like crazy!
TopCat, 20psi?! What size? That seems REALLY low. I have 217/40-17's and I run 37 front, 35 rear for the street, Up to 40 front, 38 rear for the track. |

I have put about 9,000 miles on a set of 205/55/16 T1s on my stock rims. When these wear out, I will replace them with the same.
The car went from vague and soft steering to an alomost razor-sharp kind of response. The tires stick beautifully and do well in the rain. They are horrible in the snow - downright dangerous. I have started to notice some inner tread wear on the fronts and will do a front to rear swap this weekend. That is probably from more aggressive cornering - prompted by the tires' abilities. On a side note, I drove a WRX this week with the 16" wheels - the handling seemed crappy with the stock tires. Is the car an improvement of the RS -sure. But getting back into my RS with the T1s showed the huge improvement these tires make. When gently nudged, the WRX seemed to easily overpower the abilities of the stock donuts. |

The Speedvision GT series is running the Toyo T1S (shaved) on all cars this season. I'm sure that just means Toyo paid them enough, but the tires have to be able to stick and stand up to extreme use...

Its funny, when people talk wheels, the subject of weight almost always comes up, but when it comes to tires, weight is rarely mentioned.
From looking over many tire data sheets, the Toyo Proxes T1-S seems to be lighter than average for any given size. The T1-S in the 205/50ZR16 size is less than 20lbs, were as most other max performance tires I've seen in that size are in the 22-24lbs range. Saving 2lbs (per tire) may not seem like alot, but there are many who have spent big bucks to get that same 2lbs weight savings with new wheels. Plus, with the stock '98-'99 five spoke RS wheels weighting in at about 16.5lbs, there are not many 16X7 wheels with 53mm offset that weigh 2lbs less. As far as unsprung weight goes, it doesn't make much of difference where the weight is saved. But looking at the tire/wheel combo as a flywheel, 2lbs from the tire is more significant than 2lbs from the wheel. [This message has been edited by Scottie (edited March 28, 2001).] |

i have them, love em...80mph into 90 degree corners and no squeal...of course my suspension is highly modified but it's the fact that i could go faster if i was insane enough...same corners at 60 in the wet safely...have had them for about 14k now and lots of life left(and i drive hard) 1/2-3/4 tread still i'd say
