WRX in ESP?
To all you Auto-Xers... Am I crazy to consider prepping a WRX for ESP? I was thinking about all the v-8s - kinda David vs. Goliath. Or is STX the way to go? I used to run a stock '86 MR2, but I want to get at the WRX suspension while the car's still fresh.
Any feedback is appreciated. jd

I'm using STX as a stepping stone to either SM or ESP in a couple years. I'd rather get the suspension and power sorted out in STX on cheaper street tires then once that's done, go to a season where the only cost will be the r-compounds every couple months. --kC |

That's a hard choice....
If you don't have aspireations for the nationals, then ESP is pretty cool. The problem you will have is boost creep. When you have added the exhaust, fuel management, intake, intercooler, etc... you will overrun the stock boost management. But then again, properly tuned, you could use the boost spike to your advantage. I have competed against nationally prepped ESP cars in my region. It was a humbling experiance Regionally, I have done very well. I won twice at events where those mooostangs were traction impared I had nothing more swaybars and 17" wheels. (pre-STX) I think ESP is possible, but not likely. The amount of money you would have to spend on turbo killing performance would be better spent on a SM car. I agree with KC. If you get your car setup for STX, then SM is the next logical stepping stone. |

As was stated before, boost creep is the big problem. This is one of the factors that lead Fedja Jeleskovic to move from ESP to SM in his Talon. He did very well nationally, especially in the Pro Solo events in ESP. If you can control the creep, I think it would be a great ESP car.

So after a year with the 'T-2-small' (which actually has a quicker spool time) he went to SM because of the limitless possibilities in SM (or he hit the ceiling in ESP). --kC Fedja taught me all I needed to know to get me addicted. |

The problem with Street prepared in general is that the rules favor cars whos basic technology has not really changed for 30 years now. The WRX just does not respond the same way to what the SP rules allow and remain reliable enough to be a street driver. |

Thanks for your feedback! Can any of you guys explain a little more about "boost creep". My mind is lost in a N/A world.
And by the way I love these little cold fronts taht make it down to FL. The car feels like it gains some nice HP in the 50 degree mornings. Regards, jd |
